Checklist: Post-Installation Tasks
The following applies to , , , and systems.
After configuring your system you will need to perform post-installation tasks to ready your system for use.
Tasks
Make sure to complete the following post-installation tasks after you configure your system.

The StorNext software release shipped with the product supports the features of the system. if there are delays between when the system was received to when it was installed, a newer StorNext release may be available for the system. |

You must disable target resets for Fibre Channel ports which are used to connect to an FC SAN used for tape storage. See Target Reset and Fibre Channel Tape Support on Qlogic HBA Issues on quantum.com. |

Install and/or Configure and Features, and StorNext Clients |

Install the Connector on Linux clients, and/or Install the Connector on Windows clients, as needed. |

Remove alerts and RAS tickets. See Remove StorNext Alerts and Tickets. |

How to Enable Encryption for QXS SED Drives
Caution: Be aware that if you previously stored data on your system prior to configuring the drives to operate as encrypted drives, you will lose that information during the conversion process.
- Log in to the QXS Disk Management Utility. See Access the QXS Disk Management Utility/GUI.
- If needed, upgrade QXS firmware to GL222P051 (encrypted drive support was not provided prior to this release).
- Navigate to the QXS Hybrid Disk Documentation page on quantum.com.
- Download the QXS Disk Management Utility (DMU) V7 GUI User's Guide (PDF).
- Navigate to the Changing FDE Settings section of the document and follow the instructions there to enable encryption on your QXS drives .
Controller firmware upgrades for QXS must be done according to the firmware upgrade instructions found in the Installation Instructions section of the QXS Release Notes at www.quantum.com/qxshybriddocs. Look for the applicable Release Notes for the release you need, or a later release.
To Determine Which QXS Firmware Release is Installed
In the QXS GUI, look in the top area of the page for information similar to the following (the second line in this example indicates the QXS system is running QXS GL222R050 firmware:

Change the Default Linux StorNext User Account Password
After installation, you should change the default StorNext user password from the server's command line.
Important
Follow the corporate security policies in place to ensure retention and protection of the password used.
Change the Password
- Access the system's command line
- At the prompt, enter the following command to change the StorNext user password:
passwd stornext
- At the prompt, enter the new password.
- At the prompt, re-enter the new password.
- For dual-server (HA) systems, repeat this process for server node 2.
Update Firewall Settings for SNAPI Configuration Changes
As of StorNext 5, firewall rule functions have been modified to add /opt/DXi/snapiconfig file filters. Any time a network change is made on the system, the snapiconfig file will be processed and the firewall rules will be updated.
SNAPI ports are open by default, but these ports can be filtered by modifying the new /opt/DXi/snapiconfig file and enabling the FILTER_SNAPI flag. You can add more IPs to this file in the variable “ALLOWED=”. By doing so, the firewall will be opened for the additional SNAPI port IP addresses.
Keep in mind that SNAPI should only be allowed from the IP address(es) of SNAPI clients or a StorNext AEL Archive.
Update Firewall Settings for SNAPI
- Access the command line. See Access the Service Port and System Command Line.
- At the prompt, enter the following command to process the file and apply the firewall rule changes on the system:
/opt/DXi/scripts/netcfg.sh --reset_snapi
