Remove and Replace Server Components

The following section presents steps for installing and removing server components. Use the instructions in these topics to safely and effectively maintain your server.

  • Key to the bezel lock.

    Note: Only required when you have a locking bezel.

  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • #1 Phillips screwdriver
  • T6, T8, T10, and T15 Torx screwdrivers

 

  1. If the server you need to work on is configured in an HA failover server pair configuration, and is currently powered on and operating as primary, fail system operations over to the other server node. (See Initiate a Graceful Server Failover)
  2. Turn off the server, if it is currently powered on (see Power Off a Server Node).
  3. Disconnect the server from the electrical outlet.

    4. Note: Label peripheral cables prior to removing the cables to assist with attachment after working on the server.

  4. Disconnect cables for any connected peripherals.
  5. If installed, remove the front bezel. See Remove and Install the Front Bezel.
  6. Remove the server from the rack. See Server Rack – Remove and Replace.
  7. Remove the server cover. See Remove and Install the Server Cover.

 

  1. Install the server cover. See Remove and Install the Server Cover.
  2. Slide the server node into the rack. See Server Rack – Remove and Replace.
  3. Install the bezel. See Remove and Install the Front Bezel.
  4. Connect cables to peripherals to the same ports they were removed from earlier.
  5. Reconnect both AC power supplies for the server to their electrical outlets.
  6. Turn the server on (see Power On a Server Node)
  7. If the server is part of an HA server pair configuration, and is currently powered on, fail system operations over to the server node originally operating as primary. (See Initiate a Graceful Server Failover)
