Identify My StorNext Appliance, and Access Training and Documentation

StorNext Appliances encompass multiple system types, and different generations of system hardware. This should help you determine which specific system you have, and where to find training and documentation related to your system hardware.

Note: With the launch of StorNext Base System 7.0.1, some appliances are no longer supported for StorNext software upgrades. For the systems affected, these are noted here, in their individual sections below. For the comprehensive list of supported appliances for StorNext 7.0.1 and later, see the "StorNext Appliance Compatibility" section of the StorNext 7 Compatibility Guide.

How can I determine system hardware if I cannot currently access the physical hardware?

While both Gen 2 and R630 hardware run on CentOS7, all appliance models with R520 server hardware run on CentOS6. Because of this, you can sometimes differentiate hardware based on which OS it's running.

If you have an appliance model with a similar name, but aren't sure if it is running on Gen 2/R630 or R520 hardware, here's a quick way to determine which CentOS the system is running:

  1. Open an SSH connection to the appropriate server and use the IP address assigned to the node on the Management or LAN Client network, or use the Service Port IP address.

    • Node 1 : 10.17.21.1 (dual-server node systems)
    • Node 2 : 10.17.21.2 (dual-server node, or supported "HA-ready" single-server node StorNext appliances)

  2. Initiate an ssh session to the system using Terminal or PuTTY:
    1. Log in to the command line using the following credentials:
      • User name: stornext
      • Password: <stornext user account password>

        Note: "password" is the default password for the stornext user account. If the password has been changed, use the current password. Beginning with StorNext 7.0.2, you must change the default password for the stornext user account. As of StorNext 7.0.2, the first time you log in, you will be prompted to change the password to a different one.

    2. Enter sudo rootsh to gain root user access.
    3. Enter the password for the stornext user account again.

 

Enter the following:

cat /opt/DXi/base_version

You will see output like the following:

Major=6

Minor=1

Patch=0

LCR=

Port=

Build=21970

Version=6.1.0.OS7-21970

Platform=DXiSNA

In this example, this system is running CentOS7 (shown in green in the example above). So, if you had an Xcellis Workflow Extender, and had this output when you ran this command, you would know you have a either a Gen 2 or R630-based system. However, if the results had shown OS6, you would know you have an R520-based system.

Enter the following:

uname -r

Look for el7 (shown in green) in the result for CentOS7 systems:

3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.qtm.x86_64

Look for el6 (shown in green) in the result for CentOS6 systems:

3.10.0-693.2.2.el6.qtm.x86_64
  1. Close your SSH session.
