Overview
This guide describes the upgrade process from library firmware below 77xQ to the 830Q firmware release. Refer to the latest Release Notes for a list of enhancements and bug fixes in this release.
Important Information - 830Q Upgrade Requirements
- This firmware upgrade is only for Gen2 robotics. Any systems with older hardware must be upgraded prior to installing 830Q. The release cannot be used for Gen1 robotics systems.
- If the library has a Gen1 robot, EXTENDED DOWNTIME WILL BE NEEDED.
- This upgrade does not support the 6404 FCB (Fibre Channel Blade) and does not support SDLT drives.
- All libraries upgraded to the release must be i6000 systems.
- If your system does not meet all of the upgrade requirements above, please contact Quantum Service and Support for assistance.

830Q Drive Firmware Version
The latest firmware for the following drives is included in the library firmware bundle:
- IBM LTO-6 (FC) 8 Gb
- IBM LTO-7 (FC) 8 Gb
- IBM LTO-8 (FC) 8 Gb
- IBM LTO-9 (FC) 8 Gb
- IBM LTO-9 (FC) 8 Gb
- IBM LTO-9 (SAS) 12 Gb
- HP LTO-6 (FC) 8 Gb
The library may automatically apply new firmware level to the tape drives, depending on the Auto Leveling policy. For drive firmware compatibility, please refer to the latest Release Notes.
Service License Updates
In the 770Q release, the Service license features include library firmware updates, tape drive firmware updates, library snapshot retrievals, automatic tech support e-mail notifications, diagnostic testing, and service log/chart support. The service license must be applied upon installation of a new library, or upon upgrades to 770Q or later firmware.

Updating Gen2 Library Firmware From Below 77xQ to 830Q
Important Information - Before You Begin
- Read the latest Release Notes.
- If the library is not connected to the Internet, you can get the latest library firmware from the Scalar i6000 page. Click the Firmware tab to download the desired firmware package to your computer.

The Library Management Console (LMC) requires Java Runtime Engine v1.7u76 or above.

Retrieve the relevant drivers and store on your computer. These drivers are found on the Scalar i6000 Service and Support page.
Perform the Firmware Update
- Bring up the Library Management Console (LMC) client by browsing to the library. (http://<library_ip>/).
- Logon using an Admin level user.

Select Setup > Date and Time. Verify that the time and date are correct. This ensures that system logs show the correct time and date when the upgrade occurs.

Use the host application to unload any cartridges from drives. If you cannot do so from the host application, select the appropriate partition in the LMC (View > [Partition Name]) and then select Tools > Drives > Eject.

Select Operations > System Shutdown > Reboot. This reboot process ensures that any memory leaks are not at a critical level where the upgrade will fail.
- Once the library reboot is complete, log back into the LMC.
- Select the physical library under the View menu option.

Disable the library. Select Operations > Change Mode > Offline.

Take a snapshot of the library before the upgrade. Select Tools > Capture Snapshot. Label the snapshot 'before upgrade' + the library serial number.

Save the library configuration. Select Tools > Save/Restore > Save.
- Resolve and close any open RAS tickets.

Disable Auto Inventory if it is currently enabled on the library. In the LMC, select Setup > System Settings> Physical Library to disable this policy.

Select Tools > Update Software > Library.

Select Next. Select the software package you wish to install. If the library does not have an Internet connection, you can also select Download New Package to upload a local copy of the software package from your laptop.
- Once the correct updated software package is selected, select Finish to initiate the upgrade. The install time is calculated. Next, select Install and answer the prompts to enable the library upgrade.
- Once the software upgrade and library reboot is complete, you can now log in to the library using the WebGUI. The WebGUI replaces the LMC in all i13.x library firmware upgrades.

Bring up the WebGUI by browsing to the library IP address (https://<library ip address>)
- Log on using an Admin level user.

In the WebGUI, select the System menu option to review the upgraded library. In the Information panel, verify that the Library Firmware Version matches the firmware selected for the upgrade.
A system configuration restoration is usually not required after a library firmware upgrade.
Note: If the library does not have an EEB blade the EEB version will display “UNKNOWN”.
Caution: If you do need to restore the library configuration and are using EDLM, special precautions need to be taken during the restoration. Contact Quantum Service and Support for assistance.
- To put the library back online, select Devices from the WebGUI system menu (see Scalar i6000 Devices).

Take a snapshot of the library After the upgrade. In the WebGUI, select Service > Library Snapshot. Label the snapshot 'after upgrade' + the library serial number (see Library Snapshot).

Save the updated library configuration. In the WebGUI, select Select System > Save/Restore (see Save or Restore the Library Configuration).
- If the AMC Server/Client software was previous used with the library, de-install the client and server software on all computers that are dedicated to the remote management of the Scalar i6000 running the updated firmware.
