i6 Partitions

Lists some of the highlighted partition parameters.

Lists all the configured parameters for any highlighted partition. This includes user-specified and library-configured parameters.

Shows a summary of the last 24 hours of read/write and mount performance aggregated data for the highlighted partition.

Provides options for partition configuration, policy and action.

This window allows you to add a standard (SCSI host accessible) or library managed (EDLM, Active Vault) partition and define the number of drives and storage elements associated with the partition. Standard partitions allow for native product ID configuration or other product emulation.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.

2. In the Operations panel, click Add.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Partition Name	Name that identifies the new partition	Enter partition name. Note: Any leading and/or trailing spaces are removed from the partition name.
   Type	Identifies the type of partition you are adding. Options include: Standard - used for SCSI-host operations. EDLM (Extended Data Life Management) - used to test media (see EDLM). Active Vault - used for short and long term media archiving (see Active Vault).	Select a value from the drop-down menu. Note: Once a partition type is defined and applied, it is not modifiable.
   Vendor Identification	The Vendor ID information is only available for Standard partition types and is used in the SCSI Inquiry command. Options include: Quantum ADIC	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Product Identification	The Product setting is only available for Standard partition types and controls the product ID string that is returned in a standard SCSI INQUIRY response. The available choices are: Scalar i3-i6 - native product ID Scalar i6000 - product emulation of Scalar i6000 Scalar i500 - product emulation of Scalar i500 Scalar i40-i80 - product emulation of Scalar i40 or Scalar i80 This feature can enable the library to be used with host applications that do not yet include the i6 in a list of recognized devices. In addition, the various Microsoft Windows operating systems maintain a list of recognized devices. If the i6 is not in an operating system’s list of recognized devices, the library will appear as an “unknown” device in device lists.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Control Interface	The Control Interface is only available for Standard partition types. Options include: None (default). Drive - selectable if at least one drive is configured. Select Drive if you want to use drives to host the partition control path (see Partition Control Path ).	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Barcode Reporting	Quantum supplies industry standard LTO barcode labels with a length of 6 + 2 corresponding to the Standard Six and Plus Six formats listed below. For advanced uses, your Quantum library supports label lengths of up to 16 characters allowing you to create custom labels. Extended - Five to 16 characters total, including a barcode number and optional two-character media ID. All characters are reported to the host, regardless of whether the barcode label has a media ID. Standard (default) - Five to 16 characters total, including a barcode number and optional two-character media ID. If a media ID is included, the library will only report the barcode number to the host. Standard Six - Six-character barcode number with or without a two-character media ID. Only the six-character barcode number is reported to the host. Plus Six - Six-character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The six-character barcode and media ID are reported to the host. Media ID First - Five to 14 character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The media ID is reported to the host first. Media ID Last - Five to 14 character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The media ID is reported to the host last. Depending on which setting you choose, you can control the use of the media type identifier in the volume serial number that is returned to the host.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Number of Drives	The number of drives applies only to Standard and EDLM partition types and depends on the Drive Type selection. Allows you to set the number of drives for the new partition.	Enter the number of drives for your drive type selection below.
   Drive Type	Allows you to select the type of drive to be used in the partition. Options include: Any - library will select any available drive type. LTO-6 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-6 drives. LTO-7 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-7 drives. LTO-8 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-8 drives. LTO-9 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-9 drives.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Number of Storage Slots	Allows you to set the number of storage slots for the new partitions.	Enter number of storage slots.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

This window allows you to modify a standard (SCSI host accessible) or library managed (EDLM, Active Vault) partition and define the number of drives and storage elements associated with the partition. Standard partitions allow for native product ID configuration or other product emulation.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partition.
2. From the North Panel, select a partition.

3. From the Operation panel, select Modify.

   

   Note: The Available Resources counts may be different than on the Add Partition page. The count includes only empty slots. The number of Storage and Drive slots may not be increased to include any full slots.

   Item	Description	Action
   Partition Name	Allows you to name the partition.	Enter text. Note: Any leading and/or trailing spaces are removed from the partition name.
   Type	Allows you to select the type of partition. Options include: Standard - used for SCSI-host operations EDLM - used to test media Active Vault - used for short and long term media archiving	This field cannot be modified. Once a partition type has been defined, it cannot be changed.

   Barcode Reporting	Barcode reporting is only available for Standard partition types to define how media labels are reported to a SCSI host application. Note: NAS/LTFS partitions cannot be modified. Quantum supplies industry standard LTO barcode labels with a length of 6 + 2 corresponding to the Standard Six and Plus Six formats listed below. For advanced uses, your Quantum library supports label lengths of up to 16 characters allowing you to create custom labels. Available choices: Extended - Five to 16 characters total, including a barcode number and an optional two-character media ID. All characters are reported to the host, regardless of whether the barcode label has a media ID.. Standard (default) - Five to 16 characters total, including a barcode number and optional two-character media ID. If a media ID is included, the library will only report the barcode number to the host. Standard Six - Six-chraracter barcode number with or without a two character media ID. Only the six-character barcode number is reported to the host. Plus Six - Six-character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The six-character barcode and media ID are reported to the host. Media ID First - Five to 14 character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The media ID is reported to the host first. Media ID Last - Five to 14 character barcode number followed by a two-character media ID. The media ID is reported to the host last.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Number of Drives	The number of drives applies only to Standard and EDLM partition types and depends on the Drive Type selection. Allows you to set the number of drives for the new partition. Increasing the number of drives depends on how many are listed in the Available Resources box.	Select the number of drives. If the control interface is configured for Drive, the number of drives may not be reduced below the number of full drives configured for the control path interface. If you want to remove or add full drives to the partition, see Partition Resources.
   Drive Type	Allows you to select the type of drive to be used in the partition. Options include: Any - library will select any available drive type LTO-6 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-6 drives LTO-7 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-7 drives LTO-8 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-8 drives LTO-9 - limits the partition to only selecting LTO-9 drives	If this is currently an LTO-n drive type, it can be modified to Any. You cannot change from one LTO drive type to another LTO drive type.
   Number of Storage Slots	Allows you to set the number of slots for new partitions.	Select the number of storage slots. The number of slots may not be reduced below the number of full slots in the partition. If you want to remove or add full storage slots to the partition, see Partition Resources.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

This window allows you to delete selected partition(s) from the North Panel. Deleting a partition will free all partition resources and prevent any further partition operation. All media assigned to the partition will become unassigned and inaccessible.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to delete.

3. In the Operations panel, click Delete.

   

4. Click Apply to save your settings. The partition is deleted from the list in the North Panel.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

The Resources window allows you to view current assigned drives, slots and other elements for a selected partition and add drives and slots to existing partitions. The library assigns colors to each resource in the partition so you can tell which slots or drives are assigned to which partitions. The window also has a legend icon you can hover over to see which colors are assigned to your partitions or other resources, such as I/E or cleaning slots.

   Library Unassigned	Displays the number of available drives and storage slots that can be assigned to the selected partition.	Display only.
   Library Legend Icon	A small icon in the upper right of the window that describes what the colors indicate in the visual display. Green - unassigned drives and storage slots Violet - drives and storage slots allocated to a specific partition Red - slots allocated as I/E slots Light Blue - Slots allocated to cleaning	Display only.
   Module number	To the left of each visual representation of a module is its number that shows its position in the library. The CM will always be module 0. Modules above the CM will be positive numbers (1, 2, etc) and modules below the CM will be negative numbers (-1, -2, etc).	Display only.
   Check boxes	You can use various check boxes to change the assignment of magazines, slots, and drives: Check box to the left or right of each magazine - assigns the entire magazine to the selected partition. Clear to unassign the magazine. Check box in a magazine - assigns all five (5) slots to the selected partition. Clear to unassign. Check box between magazines - assigns all available drives to the selected partition. Clear to unassign	See explanations in the previous column.

3. Make the desired changes to the selected partition and click Apply. The changes are displayed in the row for the selected partition in the North Panel.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

The control path tape drive is used to connect a partition to a host application. The library automatically assigns control paths when you set up partitions. You can modify the control path at any time.

Only one tape drive in a partition can be selected as the control path. If the control path connection to the host application fails, you can select a new control path for the partition.

In addition, if the control path for the partition is an IBM LTO-6 or later tape drive and you have Multi-path or Advanced Path Failover licensed on the library, you can select another IBM LTO-6 or later tape drive for control path failover. To use Advanced Path Failover, you must have the appropriate IBM driver installed on your host to manage failover. Click here and then select the Drivers tab for instructions on how to download the necessary drivers.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to set control path options.

3. From the Operations panel, click Control Path.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Control Interface	Allows you to select from the following options: None (default) Drive	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Redundancy	Allows you to select the type of control path: None (default) Multi-Path - allows you to configure dual-port IBM LTO-6 and higher drives for redundant paths to the partition. The library must have a Multi-Path Failover (MPF) license applied to the selected drives. This option is only allowed to be enabled if the Drive Port Access setting is either set to Standard or Multi-Path. Advanced Path Failover (APF) - provides support for IBM LTO-6 FC and higher drives and IBM LTO-9 SAS and higher drives, and requires hosts to have the Advanced Path Failover driver installed as well as the library must have an Advanced Path Failover (APF) license applied to the selected drives. This option is only allowed to be enabled if the Drive Port Access setting is either set to Standard or Advanced. Note: Advanced Path Failover cannot mix FC/SAS drives for primary and secondary control paths.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Control Path Drive Selection	Allows you to select which drive will be primary and which drive(s) will be secondary control paths. Note: Advanced Path Failover cannot mix FC/SAS drives for primary and secondary control paths.	For each drive in the partition, select the Primary or Secondary check box.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

This feature allows you determine how you want the library to handle drive cleaning.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to set up drive cleaning.

3. From the Operations panel, click Cleaning.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Manual Cleaning (Default)	Allows you to manually initiate cleaning. You will receive a RAS ticket notification that cleaning is needed.	Select the radio button.
   Application-Managed Cleaning	Allows you to let a third party application determine when drives need to be cleaned. Note: RAS tickets generated by the library are suppressed so there is no internal indication that drives are ready to be cleaned.	Select the radio button.
   Library-Initiated Automatic Cleaning	Allows you to set up the library to communicate with drives to determine when they need to be cleaned and automatically clean the drive. You must have cleaning slots defined to use this feature. See Library Cleaning Slots or Partition Resources to assign cleaning slots or view available slots. Note: RAS tickets generated by the library are suppressed so there is no internal indication that drives are ready to be cleaned.	Select the radio button.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Encryption key management systems generate, protect, store, and manage encryption keys. These keys are used by their respective tape drives to encrypt information being written to tape, and decrypt information being read from tape. EKM is a licensable feature. You must have an EKM license installed on your library to use encryption features.

On the library, encryption is enabled by partition. The default setting for encryption-capable drives permits external application-managed encryption support for all encryption-capable tape drives and media within a partition.

You cannot select individual drives for encryption; you must select an entire partition. If you encrypt a partition, all encryption-capable tape drives are enabled for encryption, and all data written to supported media is encrypted. Non encryption-capable tape drives will not be enabled for encryption, and non-supported media will not be encrypted.

Note: Media with unencrypted data on it will remain unencrypted. Media with unencrypted data will not be encrypted until they are erased or relabeled. Erasing and relabeling operations will destroy existing unencrypted data on the media.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to set up EKM.

3. From the Operations panel, click EKM.

   Item	Description	Action
   Enable Library-Managed Encryption (LME)	Allows the library to handle encryption operations and provides support via a connected key manager server— Scalar Key Manager (SKM) or KMIP-compliant key server—for all tape drives and encryption-capable media assigned to the partition. Note: LME cannot be enabled while encryption keys are being generated by a key manager server.	Select the check box to enable LME. Deselect the check box to disable LME.
   Enable FIPS Mode	To enable FIPS on the partition, all drives assigned to the partition must have FIPS drive firmware (see Update or Remove Drive Firmware).	Select check box to enable FIPS Mode. Deselect the check box to disable FIPS Mode.
   Key Retrieval Method	Allows you to specify how to handle encryption keys in your library. Options include: Enable Single Key Per Media (SKPM) (default) - provides a unique key for each piece of media requesting a key in the partition. For KMIP encryption, it will also allow a key set to be selected. Enable Single Key Per Partition (SKPP) - provides a single, common key for any media requesting a key in the partition. Enable Single Key Per Library (SKPL) - provides a single, common key for any media requesting a key, in any partition, in the library.	Select the radio button next to the option you want to use. If you select SKPM, you can also select the check box to enable key reuse. For KMIP encryption, you can also select the key set check box and select a key set.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

EDLM functionality allows for manual and automated media tests to determine media health. Automatic scanning and other EDLM policies are enabled by partition. You can set up EDLM policies on as many Standard and Active Vault partitions as you want, as well as on EDLM library managed partitions. (However, some policies are not available on library managed partitions; namely, those that require external access to a host application.)

You can configure the following types of policies:

Media Scan Candidate Policies

Specifies when to perform automatic scans on media in the partition.

Media Scan Type Policies

Specifies which type of automatic scans to perform.There are three types of scans you can perform:

• Quick - Does not scan the tape. Evaluates data from the cartridge memory (CM) only. A quick scan takes less than one minute per tape.

• Normal - Evaluates the cartridge memory (CM) and scans selected portions of the tape, focusing on areas most likely to indicate problems. Normal scan times are dependent on the media type.

  Additional Information

  If there is only one drive for the media selected, the scan time is cumulative. Review the example below.

  If there are multiple drives selected, the media scan times are spread among the applicable drives and the longest time for a drive is given. Review the example below.

Media Scan Results Action Policies

Specifies what actions to take on suspect or failed media. These policies apply to all media in the partition.

EDLM and Airgap (Ransom Block) Policies

Airgap policies can be applied to EDLM policies in Standard and Active Vault partitions and EDLM library managed partitions.

EDLM Partitions	You can mix airgap magazines and standard magazines in the same EDLM partition. Airgap magazines in an EDLM partition must own all the slots in the magazine.
Media Block	Blocked media is eligible for EDLM scans in Standard and Active Vault partitions that enable EDLM scan operations. Blocked media in EDLM library managed partitions is eligible for EDLM scans operations.
Airgap Magazines	Media EDLM scanned from airgap magazines will be returned to its home slot location in the airgap magazine. If the home slot is not available, the library will first attempt to locate another available slot in the airgap magazine. If an alternate slot in the airgap magazine is not available, the library will look for an alternate airgap magazine with the same airgap policies applied. If no alternate airgap magazine is available, the library will generate a RAS ticket.
Sequestered Airgap Magazines	If an airgap magazine is sequestered, EDLM media scans for the tape cartridges in the sequestered magazine will be skipped, with an EDLM media scan status of untested. Airgap magazines can be sequestered or ejected while an EDLM media scan on a tape cartridge from the magazine is in progress. When the EDLM scan is complete, the library will look for an alternative airgap magazine with the same policy settings applied as the sequestered airgap magazine to place the tape cartridge. If no alternative airgap magazine available for tape cartridge placement, the library will generate a RAS ticket.
Standard Magazines	EDLM media scans from standard magazines are returned to standard magazines only.

3. From the Operations panel, select EDLM.

   

   Item	Description
   Enable EDLM Policy	Activates EDLM Policy setting fields.
   Full Scan Interval	Allows you to specify the interval between full scans. Options include: Every month Every 3 months Every 6 months Every year Every 3 years Every 5 years Allows you to specify monthly full scan intervals from one month up to 3 years.
   Every month Every 3 months Every 6 months Every year Every 3 years	Allows you to specify the interval between normal scans. Options include: Allows you to specify normal month scan intervals from one month up to 3 years.
   Import Scan	Scans a tape cartridge as soon as it is imported into the partition. Options include: Quick Normal Full
   Tape Alert Trigger Scan	Scans a tape if the number of Tape Alerts reported for that cartridge exceeds the value specified in the Tape Alert Count drop-down. Options include: Quick Normal Full This policy is disabled by default. The default number of Tape Alerts is 1. This policy is not available on the library managed partitions.
   Tape Alert Count	Defines how many lifetime tape alerts from the following list have been reported since a cartridge was last scanned to trigger an automatic scan. Tape alerts that trigger during an EDLM scan include: 1,2,3,4,5, and 6.
   Concurrent Scan Limit	Defines how many scans can be performed at the same time. Options include: Unlimited (default) 1
   Scan Priority	User may select the priority for initiating an EDLM scan. Any scans that are in process will complete before next highest priority scan initiates. Options include: Immediate - Scan will occur next. High - Scan will occur before Medium or Low priorities. Medium - Default setting. Scan will occur before Low priority. Low - Scan will occur last. Select the desired priority from the drop-down menu. A typical use might be to assign an EDLM partition with Low priority, an Active Vault partition assigned to Medium priority and Standard partition to assigned High priority. Manual scans could be assigned as Immediate for the quickest response.
   Enable RAS Ticket Generation	Select this option if you wish to receive RAS tickets and e-mail notifications of bad or suspect media. Note: RAS ticket generation is disabled by default since the final result can always be reviewed in the EDLM Scan Test report.
   Continue on Scan Error	Allows the library to complete a scan even if errors are encountered.
   Enable Application Interface Support	Allows you to use a supported external application to configure external application support, such as StorNext, for test trigger analysis and automatic data copy operations.
   Application Interface	Allows you to select a supported external host application. Options include: StorNext WebServices Note: You must have the application interface configured before you can use this feature. See Add StorNext Application Interface Configuration.
   Suspect Count Scan	Setting this count allows you to specify when the library should trigger an automatic EDLM scan for media whose suspect count violates or exceeds the selected threshold. If enabled, a tape will be queued for EDLM testing when its suspect count threshold is reached. Note: If supported by the external application, you may want to consider resetting the suspect count threshold if the library completed EDLM scan is successful and determines the tape to be good. This policy is disabled by default. You can only select this policy if Enable Application Interface Support is also selected and the external application supports suspect count analysis.
   Copy Suspect Tapes	Allows you to configure automatic copy operations of data from a suspect tape. Suspect tapes generate ticket alerts from the library.
   Copy Failed Tapes	Allows you to configure automatic copy operations of data from a failed tape. Failed tapes generate ticket alerts from the library.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Drive leveling allows the library to automatically install the latest drive firmware when it becomes available. This feature is available when any partition that has drives configured is selected from the North Panel.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to the partition you want to modify.

3. In the Operations panel, click Drive Leveling.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Enable Drive Firmware Leveling	Allows you to enable or disable drive leveling for the drive(s) assigned to the selected partition.	Select the check box to enable drive leveling. Deselect the checkbox to disable drive leveling.
   Automatic Drive Firmware Leveling	Enables the library to automatically update drive firmware with the latest version uploaded to the library. See Update Drive Firmware for more information.	Select the radio button.
   Selective Drive Firmware Leveling	Allows you to select which version of the uploaded drive firmware to use when updating drive firmware.	Select the radio button. In the Firmware Version column of the table, select a firmware version from the drop-down menu.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Active Vault functionality provides a media vault where media can be moved manually or automatically for short or long-term media storage. Active Vault policies are configured on standard partitions. These policies intercept host commands that export tape cartridges to library managed Active Vault partitions instead of I/E elements. An active vault policy can only be configured if an Active Vault license is applied and an active vault partition(s) exists.

There are two ways to configure your active vault policy:

Active Vault and Airgap (Ransom Block) Policies

Airgap policies can be applied to Active Vault partitions.

Active Vault Partitions	You can mix airgap magazines and standard magazines in the same Active Vault partition. If you want to use both airgap magazines and standard magazines with Active Vault, Quantum recommends that create an Active Vault partition containing airgap magazines only and another Active Vault partition containing standard magazines only.
Media Block	Tape cartridges that have media block (logical tape blocking) applied cannot be moved into an Active Vault partition.
Airgap Magazines	Tape cartridges with no media block applied can be moved into an Active Vault partition with airgap magazines. Once the tape cartridge is moved, the policies in the Active Vault airgap magazine will apply to the tape cartridge.
Active Vault Partition-Based Export-Redirect Policies	Active Vault partition-based, export policies will place media from airgap magazines into Active Vault airgap magazines with the same airgap policies applied until all slots in the magazine are filled with media. Media will not be fragmented across different airgap magazines in the Active Vault partition. Magazine selection starts with the bottom most left magazine in the Active Vault partition, and will fill magazines assigned to the Active Vault partition from left to right and bottom to the top of the library.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to an active vault partition.

3. In the Operations panel, click Active Vault.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Activate Vault Policy	Enables the configured Active Vault settings for the selected partition(s). Note: You cannot change the Active Vault policy with tapes present in the I/E area.	Select the check box to enable Vault Policy. Deselect the check box to disable the Vault Policy.
   Export-Redirect to Library-Defined Vault Partition	Allows you to always use a defined active vault partition for any SCSI host export move operations. Note: WebGUI-initiated export operations will still move tape cartridges to an I/E element.	Select the radio button to use this feature.
   Active Vault	Lists the available active vault partitions.	Select the desired partition from the drop-down menu.
   Barcode Filter	Allows you to specify which media to move by entering a value. For example, entering a value of *123L4 will cause all media with barcodes ending with 123L4 to be vaulted. Entering a value of 123* will cause all media with barcodes starting with 123 to be vaulted.	Enter text.
   Export-Redirect to Host-Specified Vault Partition	Allows you to select an external application interface configuration from the Application Interface drop-down list.	Select the radio button to use this feature.
   Application Interface	Lists the available application interface configurations.	Select the desired application from the drop-down menu.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Airgap polices are used to configure and enable the Ransom Block feature in the i6 library. Airgap allows a magazine to be sequestered. A magazine is sequestered when it is ejected from the library against a magazine eject stop. This ensures that the media in the sequestered magazine cannot be moved by the library robot..

Unlike a traditional library magazine eject, media in a sequestered magazine state can still be identified and inventoried by the i6 library.

Airgap Prerequisites

Airgap requires the following library configuration:

• i6 library firmware 277 or higher (see Update Library Firmware).

• The library module bezel must have a plugged hole above the magazine eject button. This hole is used to install the magazine eject stop.

Airgap Magazine Eligibility

• Reserve at least one magazine in the library for standard library functions, such as cleaning tapes, scratch tapes, and I/E slot configurations. I/E slots are automatically assigned in the library starting from the front of the right magazine on the Control Module (CM) to the rear of the magazine (see I/E Area).

• All slots in the magazine must be assigned to the same partition. Magazines with multiple partitions assigned to the magazine are not eligible for airgap configuration.

• All slots in the magazine must be assigned to the partition resources. Magazines that have partial slots in a magazine assigned to a partition will not be eligible for airgap configuration and will not appear in the Airgap dialog box.

  Example 1 - Magazine below is eligible for airgap configuration. All 25 slots are assigned to the partition.

  

  Example 2 - Magazine below is not eligible for airgap configuration. Only 20 of the 25 slots are assigned to the partition.

  

  Example 3 - Magazine below is not eligible for airgap configuration. There are two different partitions assigned to the same magazine.

Once a partition has been created (see Add a Partition) and magazine resources have been assigned to the partition (see Partition Resources), configure airgap policies for each eligible magazine in the partition.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions
2. Select your partition in the North panel.

3. From the Operation panel, select Airgap.

   Note: Only airgap eligible magazines from the selected partition will appear in the Airgap dialog box.

   Magazine	Lists all airgap eligible magazines added to the selected partition.	Select the check box next to the magazine you wish to configure airgap policies. Select the check box next to Magazine to select all magazines in the partition.
   Media Block	Media block enables logical tape blocking. This block prevents a tape cartridge from being removed from the magazine slot. The media block policy ensures that tape cartridges in an airgap magazine cannot be accessed for robot move operations before a magazine is full and sequestered. To clear the media block, you must sequester the magazine. You cannot clear a media block by ejecting the magazine. Once the magazine is reinserted, the media will be accessible by the library robot for move operations. Note: The media block policy will not be enabled on a tape cartridge until the tape cartridge is dismounted from a drive and placed into the airgap magazine.	Select the check box for each magazine you wish to enable the media block policy. Select the check box next to Media Block to select all magazines.
   Sequester on Full	Magazine will automatically sequester once all slots in the magazine receive a tape cartridge from a drive.	Select the check box for each magazine you wish to enable the sequester on full policy. Select the check box next to Sequester on Full to select all magazines
   Sequester on Insert	Magazine will automatically re-sequester if it is physically inserted back into the library and an insert request is not pending to the library. To clear the sequester on insert policy and allow the magazine to be reinserted, an Administrator must first Insert a Magazine.	Select the check box for each magazine you wish to enable the sequester on insert policy. Select the check box next to Sequester on Insert to select all magazines

4. Click Apply. The airgap policy configurations will take effect immediately.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

There are two partition modes: Online and Offline. Online allows the SCSI host control of the partition. In this mode, all host application SCSI commands are processed. Offline prevents the SCSI host control of the partition. In this mode, library operations can be performed via the touch screen or WebGUI.

Partition Offline

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to take offline.
3. From the Operations panel, click Offline. In the North Panel, the Mode column shows the partition offline.

Partition Online

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to bring online.
3. From the Operations panel, click Online. In the North Panel, the Mode column shows the partition online.

There are three types of inventory that can be done: a magazine specific inventory, a partition specific inventory, and an entire library inventory. If a partition is selected in the North Panel, the inventory is done for that specific partition only. If no partition is selected, the inventory is done for the entire library.

The time to complete an inventory depends on the type of inventory and the size of your library.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. If you want to do a partition- specific inventory, select a partition in the North Panel.

3. From the Operations panel, click Inventory. A dialog box displays reminding you which type of inventory you are about to perform and that the inventory could take time, depending on the size of the library or partition.

4. Click Apply. The full-library or partition-specific inventory begins. A notification will display indicating if the inventory was successful.
5. Click Close to exit the Inventory window.

The Import and Export buttons allow you to use I/E slots to import or export media to and from the library. The library’s scanner automatically reads the barcode on new cartridges inserted into the library. To use these buttons, I/E slots must be assigned. See for details on assigning I/E slots.

Export Media from a Partition

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to export media from.

3. From the Operations panel, click Export.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Barcode	Displays the barcode of the tapes in the selected partition.	Select the checkbox next to the media you want to export from the partition to I/E slots. To perform this action, you must have I/E slots configured. See I/E Area for details on configuring I/E slots.
   Location	Displays the location of the media in the selected partition.	Display only.
   Status	Displays the status of the export action on the selected media and the new location of the media.	Display only.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Import Media to a Partition

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partitions.
2. In the North Panel, select the partition you want to import media to.

3. From the Operations panel, click Import.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Barcode	Displays the barcode of the tapes in the selected partition.	Select the checkbox next to the media you want to import from the I/E slots to the partition.
   Location	Displays the location of the media in the selected partition.	Display only.
   Status	Displays the status of the import action on the selected media and the new location of the media.	Display only.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

This feature allows you to remove a piece of media from a drive.

When you remove media from a drive using this command, the media is returned to its home slot, if applicable, or to an available slot. In addition, any host application will no longer have access to data on the media and could interrupt any I/O operations.

1. Click Apply to save your settings.

2. Click Close to exit the window.

The LTO-9 media calibration feature allows you to use offline, empty, operational LTO-9 drive resources in a standard partition to perform calibration operations on selected LTO-9 media within the same partition.

When initiated in a partition, a background media calibration operation will be performed by assigned LTO-9 drives for all partition-assigned LTO-9 media with a questionable access status. The Questionable status indicates that the media is accessible LTO-9 media for which LTO-9 calibration status is unknown.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Partition from the menu.

2. From the North Panel, select a standard partition for LTO-9 media calibration operations.

3. In the Operations panel, click Calibration.

   You must have LTO-9 drives taken offline to calibrate LTO-9 media in the partition. If you do not see any available drives, take one or more LTO-9 drives offline (see Take Drive Online or Offline).

   In addition to being offline, eligible LTO-9 drives must be empty, have a good operational status, and be varied on.

   

4. Select one or more LTO-9 drives from the Drive Selection list.

5. Select the Initiate Calibration radio button.

6. Click Apply to start the calibration operation for all eligible LTO-9 media in the partition not known to be calibrated.
