StorNext NAS with Apple Open Directory
Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE …

from Alain Renaud

------------------------------

Here is some information that I gather after doing a few NAS/AOD installation. This is information that I gather it might not be completely accurate but this is what I understand about the installation as of now.

First I am attaching the current procedure to get the Kerberos key from the Apple open directory server. As far as I know this procedure is correct (make sure you use the correct procedure for the correct MacOSX version)

What I did notice with the procedure is that if you make a mistake it is very hard if not impossible to restart from scratch. So this is why I strongly recommend a backup of the AOD before doing anything.

Command: slapconfig –backupdb /tmp/AOD-Backup

Next if you find the response of the AOD server to be weird you might need to reboot it some of the change that you apply to the Kerberos database do not take effect until you reboot.

Finally before you attempt any NAS/AOD implementation you should warn the customer about the limitation of this implementation.

·         Only client bound to the AOD will have access to the share.

·         ACL are not supported when bound to AOD (bug 61593)

·         NamedStream and Xattr are not supported on our NAS implementation (bug 60133)
