SmartView Backup |
SmartView backup is the other way to configure vmPRO as a backup solution. vmPRO exports “/export” filesystem as network share via CIFS or NFS protocol. Backup applications that are enabled for network storage backup can then be configured to backup the /export filesystem as a saveset or backup job. This would require the /export share to be mounted on host that is running the backup client software. Practically all enterprise backup applications support SmartView CIFS or NFS backup. I have so far identified two backup applications that do not support network (CIFS) and hence would not work with SmartView: Barracuda Networks’ Yosemite server backup version 8.8 and Microsoft’s Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 & 2010.
Third party Backup Clients Integrated with vmPRO SmartView
NetWorker and TSM backup clients for Linux 32 bit are integrated with vmPRO and as such have commands embedded in vmPRO to install and run them. Commands to install and run these are available via panshell. NetWorker and TSM client software are required and not included in vmPRO.
To install either client requires mapping a drive to the \\<vmPRO_IP>\quantum-upgrade folder and copying in the 32 bit client RPMs for the backup client.
Next, go to the vmPRO panshell and run the install command for the client.
For NetWorker, here are the command options (available by typing “nw” at the panshell):
quantum:localhost> nw
Showing commands that start with 'nw':
nw install
nw uninstall
nw edit servers file
nw set nsrports <number of ports>
nw show nsrports
nw enable
nw disable
nw restart
nw status
nw save <save arguments>
nw mminfo <mminfo arguments>
nw recover <recover arguments>
For TSM (available by typing “tsm” at the panshell)::
quantum:localhost> tsm
Showing commands that start with 'tsm':
tsm install
tsm edit dsmsys
tsm edit dsmopt
tsm dsmc
tsm enable
tsm disable
tsm restart
tsm status
NOTE: I [Anayo] will end here, if more info is needed here I can do a demo to go into significant details with installing, setting up and running test backups.
