Overview
DPA (Data Protection Application)
- A Symantec application run on the media-server, such as NetBackup, that protects data by controlling storage server access, storage server properties, image management, image properties, and event monitoring.
LSU ( Logical Storage Unit )
- A logically addressed unit of storage that can be composed of various physical storage units.
- There is no limit in OST on the number of LSUs per storage server.
Maximum Fragment Size
- The maximum size of one image fragment on disk before creating the next fragment. We can change the maximum size of 1 data fragment within the backup application:

Media Server
- A Windows or Unix-based server-appliance running Symantec software to perform backups/restores to/from the DXi.
OST (Open Storage Technology)
- A term used by Symantec to denote a logical disk interface to various disk storage systems.
OST Image
- The backup data stored from one host.
OST Plugin
STS (Storage Server)
- An entity that mediates access to the LSUs.
- The maximum number of storage servers per DXi system is 100.
STU (Storage Unit)
- A logically addressed abstraction that represents a physical storage device or devices, such as a tape library containing two tape drives. If the physical configuration changes, the backup application can access the new devices by addressing the STU, regardless of the new physical configuration.
