How to Gather DSET Information From a Lattus Controller Node |
The Dell System E-Support Tool (DSET) provides the ability to capture a point-in-time snapshot of the hardware, storage and operating system information from a Lattus Controller Node. This topic describes how to correctly gather DSET information. Currently, the instructions in the Lattus Service Reference Guide are not correct.
Note: Currently (as of 3/2/1017) this DSET procedure will not work on the controller nodes - the two services required for a populated DSET will not be able to be started. If the customer is running Lattus version 3.6.6 and higher, (which now runs on Ubuntu Kernel 3.13, instead of the older 3.11), then the DSET will seem to run fine and output the normal log, but in opening the log there is no data except the BIOS version. Dell have indicated that if you login into iDrac then you can pull a TSR (Tech Support Report) and Controller (RAID) log - these can be submitted for hardware troubleshooting and should suffice to determine a hardware problem and get a replacement.
The only workaround currently is to send a field engineer onsite to shut down the relevant controller, boot off an updated OSMA (Dell OpenManage) USB Stick, run the DSET, then reboot the controller back into normal operation.
I will update this post when I get the procedure from platform engineering on how to create the USB stick and the exact steps to follow
Please see Oliver Lemke/SPS for more info.
This is how the instructions are written in the Lattus Service Reference Guide. Do not follow these instructions, as they are not complete and are listed as a reference here to compare with the correct procedures. Warning: Never perform a service start. It is already started. AND certainly don’t do a service stop. Bug 59913, Lattus Service Manual page 242/243 getting DSET for Controller, has been submitted to Bugzilla for this issue.
