Scalar i6000 Notifications

Auto Support allows the Scalar library to integrate with Cloud-Based Analytics (CBA).

Cloud-Based Analytics (CBA) enables Quantum to collect data about the Scalar library system and environment performance. When CBA is enabled, Scalar library telemetric data logs and library snapshots are bundled and uploaded to the remote Cloud-Based Analytics server for analysis. The data collected assists Quantum with early detection and diagnosis of any problems regarding your Scalar library.

CBA Requirements

To use CBA on a Scalar library requires the following:

• Scalar library firmware of 770Q and above. To upgrade your library firmware, refer to Update Library Firmware.

• Auto Support must be enabled on the library to allow telemetric data and library snapshots to be uploaded to the CBA server. By default, library Auto Support is enabled.

  How to Enable Auto Support

  1. In the Navigation panel, select Notifications.

  2. In the North panel, select the Auto Support check box.

  3. In the Operations panel, select RAS Tickets.

     

  4. Select the Enable Auto Support Communication check box.

  5. Click Apply.

• The DNS hostname api-as.quantum.com must be resolvable by the device that the CBA agent is enabled on

  All on-premise communication to the Cloud-Based Analytics server uses a secure https connection via port 443

• SSL Proxy transfers are not currently supported.

CBA Security

CBA Server and Portal

• No connections from the CBA server back to on-premise system are required or used.

• The CBA portal is scanned each weekly with the Nexpose security scanner.

• The non SSL port on the CBA portal is closed.

• All administrator access to the CBA portal is behind a firewall. Administrators can only access the CBA portal from defined IP addresses.

Data Privacy

Data policies ensure the security and privacy of your uploaded data. The following information is not included with a CBA data file upload:

• Passwords or encryption keys.

• Network architecture.

• Proprietary or confidential data.

Log Files

• CBA log files are zipped and transferred over a SSL encryption connection and are stored behind a firewall.

• There is no direct access to the zipped log files.

• CBA log files can only be accessed by a Quantum support person using a SSL connection to the CBA portal.

CBA Data Analytics

After data is uploaded to the Cloud-Based Analytics server, it is analyzed to determine the status of the Scalar library. You can access information about the uploaded data on the Cloud-Based Analytics dashboard at insight.quantum.com.

To request access to the Cloud-Based Analytics dashboard, select the Request an Account link on the dashboard.

Configure CBA Email Alerts

Once you have access to the CBA dashboard, you can configure your CBA email alerts.

1. From the drop-down of your email address in the upper left hand of the dashboard, select Manage Alerts.

   

2. Under Actions, select the library you wish to manage email alerts.

   

3. Under Alerts, select the Manage button.

   

4. Select the level of CBA reporting you want for your CBA email alerts.

for marketing purposes, Quantum regularly sends and remotely requests system information through Scalar Telemetrics.

These emails contain configuration and status information only, and do not contain any customer data stored on the system.

Refer to Enable or Disable Scalar Telemetrics below.

In additional to sending tickets to defined Quantum service email addresses, RAS tickets can also be sent to user defined email addresses. See RAS Ticket Notifications below.

A sample RAS ticket sent via email is below.

The subject line of the e-mail notification indicates Scalar i6000, the library’s serial number, and the severity level of the ticket.The message body includes the following information, which provides details about the ticket and library conditions at the time of the event:

• Serial Number

• RAS Alert Summary

• Error Code

• Severity

• Description of RAS ticket.

• Reason for RAS ticket generation.

• Last Update

• Library Firmware

• Temperature

• Humidity
  Power-On Hours

• Move Count

• Robot Serial Number

• RAS Ticket Details

The notification also includes a repair page attachment. This page provides a problem description and corrective actions you or a service engineer can perform.

Note: A notification e-mail contains helpful information about a ticket and how to resolve it. However, the notification represents a condition that existed when the problem was detected; it might not reflect the current situation. The notification indicates a specific ticket ID related to the problem. You should find and examine that specific ticket in the WebGUI. The ticket reflects the real-time status of the issue at the time the ticket was created.

The Scalar i6000 system automatically sends specified reports to a user defined email address if an Advanced Reporting License is installed on the library. Reports are only available for user-defined email addresses and must have a report filter created prior to configuring notifications (see Report Notifications).

Reports are available depending on what type of licenses you have installed on your library. For example, an EKM Media Status report is only available if EKM is licensed on your library. You can configure any report for automatic notification if an Advanced Reporting license is installed on the library.

Shows a list of all configured email addresses and what type of notifications they receive.

Lists the details of a highlighted address in the North Panel.

Displays server information for the library notification settings for email and SNMP.

Provides options for notification interaction.

You can configure notifications so that an e-mail or trap message is sent to a specified address in the event of a RAS ticket or report generation.

Administrators can enable or disable SNMP authentication traps. When the library receives an SNMP message that does not contain the correct community string or other authentication information, the library sends an SNMP authentication trap message to registered remote management systems, indicating the authentication failure.

Add E-mail Notification

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.

2. In the Operations panel, click Add.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Type	Allows you to select the type of notification.	Select E-Mail from the drop-down menu.
   Address	Allows you to enter the email address that will receive library notifications.	Enter text.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

Add Trap Notification

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.

2. In the Operations panel, click Add.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Type	Allows you to select the type of notification.	Select Trap from the drop-down menu.
   Address	Allows you to enter the IP address or DNS name that will receive library notifications.	Enter text.
   Transport	Allows you to select a protocol so the library knows what to do if a DNS name is entered in the Address field. UDP IPv4 UDP IPv6	Select the desired value from the drop-down menu.
   Port	Allows you to enter a port number. 162 is the default port number.	Enter text.
   Version	Allows you to select the TRAP protocol version associated with the TRAP notification.	Select the desired value from the drop-down menu. Currently only SNMPv1 is supported.
   Community String	Community string that applies to the TRAP notification.	This field cannot be modified.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

The modify feature is only available when there is a trap notification configured for the library. To change the address field, you must first delete the current trap notification and then create a new one.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to the email address you want to modify.

3. In the Operations panel, click Modify.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Type	Displays the type of notification.	This field cannot be modified.
   Address	Displays the IP address or DNS name that has been configured to receive library notifications.	This field cannot be modified. If you need to change the address, you must delete the notification and add a new one.
   Transport	Allows you to select a protocol so the library knows what to do if a DNS name is entered in the Address field. UDP IPv4 UDP IPv6	This field is coupled with the value entered in the Address field and cannot be modified.
   Port	Allows you to enter a port number. The default port number is 162.	Enter text.
   Version	Displays the TRAP version associated with the TRAP notification.	This field cannot be modified.
   Community String	Community string that applies to the TRAP notification.	This field cannot be modified.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

The delete functionality is only available for user-created notifications. System defined RAS notifications and Scalar Telemetrics cannot be deleted.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. In the North Panel, click the checkbox next to the notification you want to delete.

3. In the Operations panel, click Delete. The Delete window displays warning you about what deleting a notification means.

   

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

You can configure the library to automatically send email notifications to specified email addresses whenever an issue of a particular severity level occurs with one of its components. The information in the notification provides details about the issue and the library conditions at the time of the error.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to an email address.

3. In the Operations panel, click RAS Tickets.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Subject	Allows you to enter text that will appear as the subject for each notification sent to this email address. If the email address is user defined, the Subject field can be modified. If the selected email address is system defined, such as Quantum Tech Support, the Subject field is pre-populated and cannot be modified.	Currently, the subject is fixed and cannot be modified.
   Enable RAS Ticket Notification	Allows you to send RAS tickets to a specified user email address.	Select the check box to enable RAS ticket notification. Deselect to disable RAS ticket notirifcaiton.
   Severity Area	Allows you to select which severity level of RAS tickets will be sent to the selected email address. Note: Any severity level not supported or available for the user defined email address will be unavailable.	Select the check box next to the severity levels you want sent to the selected email address.
   Attachments Area	Allows you to enable or disable the type of attachments you want to include with the email notification. Types include: Ticket Resolution Library Snapshot Drive Log Note: All types are disabled by default.	Select a value from each drop-down menu you want to attach to email notifications.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Reports are available depending on what type of licenses you have installed on your library. For example, an EKM Media Status report is only available if EKM is licensed on your library. You can configure any report for automatic notification if an Advanced Reporting license is installed on the library.

Add a Report Filter to an Email Notification

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to an email address.

3. In the Operations panel, click Reports.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   	Allows you to add a report notification.	Select the add icon.
   Name	Lists available reports for which you can assign and configure notifications.	For each report that you are configuring, make selections for Interval, Day, and Time.
   Interval	Determines how often the report will be sent. You can choose from the following: Daily Weekly Monthly Quarterly Note: Once the Apply button has been clicked, you can no longer modify the filter. You will have to delete the filter and add it again if you wish to change it.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Day	Allows you to choose a day of the week when the report will be sent. Day column is unavailable if Daily is selected as an interval.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Time	Specifies the hour that the report will be sent. The values will display depending on how you chose to view time, either 12 or 24 hour clock.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

Delete a Report Filter from an Email Notification

You will use the Delete function to either remove a report notification that is no longer necessary or if you want to modify an existing report notification filter.

1. In the North Panel, select a user-defined email address from the list.

2. From the Operations panel, select Reports. The Reports window displays.

   

3. Select the Delete icon next to the report filter(s) you wish to delete.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

To help maintain system integrity and for marketing purposes, Quantum regularly sends and remotely requests system information through Scalar Telemetrics.

This support contains configuration and status information only, and does contain any customer data stored on the system

1. Select Notifications from the Navigation menu.
2. Select the check box next to scalartelemetrics@quantum.com in the North Panel.

3. From the Operation panel, select Reports.

   

4. Click the trash can icon next to Scalar Telemetrics to disable. Click the + icon to enable Scalar Telemetrics.

5. Click Apply to save your settings.

1. Select Notifications from the Navigation menu.
2. Select the check box next to techsup@quantum.com in the North Panel.

3. From the Operation panel, select RAS Tickets.

   

4. Select or deselect the Enable RAS Ticket Notification check box.

5. Click Apply to save your settings.

Auto Support allows Scalar telemetric log data and library snapshots to be uploaded to Cloud-Based Analytics (CBA).

1. Select Notifications from the Navigation menu.
2. Select the check box next to Auto Support in the North Panel.

3. From the Operation panel, select RAS Ticket.

   

4. Select or deselect the Enable Auto Support Communication checkbox.

5. Click Apply to save your settings.

After configuring the email or SNMP Trap account, you can send a test message to an address to verify that the account is configured properly.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. From the North Panel, select the email address you want to test.
3. In the Operations panel, click Test. A test email is sent to the selected address. The library will indicate if the test was successful.

You can send all configured reports immediately to a specific email address instead of just at the designated interval.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Notifications.
2. In the North Panel, click the checkbox next to the email address you want to send a notification immediately.

3. In the Operations panel, click E-Mail Reports. The Email Reports window displays informing you that you are about to send all currently configured reports to the selected email address.

   

4. Click Apply to send the reports.

5. Click Close to exit the window.
