Adding Drives to an Access Group

The Access Group feature allows you to add a drive to an access group. A host access group is composed of at least one host and one drive. Each host in the access group can send read/write commands to the drives in the group, and can send move commands to the partitions in the group.

While a host can only be in one access group, drives can be in multiple access groups.

Note: Host access groups are only available on HP LTO-5 and LTO-6 drives.

Caution: If path failover is configured for a partition you are planning to add to an access group, make sure you assign both the control path drive and the control path failover drive to this host access group. If you do not, then if the control path fails over, you will lose host access to the partition.

  1. From the Navigation panel, select Drives.
  2. In the North Panel, select the check box next to a drive(s) you want to include in an access group.
  3. In the Operations panel, click Access Group.

    Item Description Action
    Restrict Host Access

This allows you to restrict access of the selected drive(s) to the assigned access group. If all the selected drive(s) are licensed for SNW, then this feature is selected by default.

Caution: Path Failover/Native Storage Networking license required.

Select the check box to enable host access restriction. Deselect check box to disable host access restriction.
Access Groups Displays the available access group(s) for the selected drives. By default, an access group is mapped to all ports the drive supports and allows the user to restrict to either port. If one or more access groups are checked, the drive port columns show whether the access group is mapped to port 1, port 2 or both (but not zero)

Select the check box next to the access group(s) you want to add the drive(s) to.

Then select the ports you want to add to the access group.

  4. Click Apply to save your settings.

  5. Click Close to exit the window.
