Packaging Instructions

To correctly pack a Scalar i3 for shipment, you must use the Scalar i3 Repacking Kit (9-04031). The repacking kit contains the following items:

Control Modules - Install Robot Restraint

Before packing a Control Module into a shipping box, you must install the robot restraint. The robot restraint prevents the robot from becoming damaged during shipment.

  1. Remove the top cover. There are two different versions of the top cover available on Scalar i3 systems, one with screws and one without screws. Select from the options below:

    Required Tools: T-10 Torx Driver (included with library assembly tool)

    1. Use the assembly tool to remove the 8 cover screws.

    2. Remove cover. Be careful not to let the cover sag in the middle or at the ends.
    1. Remove the magazines.

    2. Using the empty magazine slots for access, use both hands to gently push up and forward on the inside of the top cover. This will release the top catch and side stops.

    3. Slide the top cover off.

  2. Place the robot in the configuration below and install the restraints.

  3. Re-install the top cover and any magazines that were removed during the procedure.

Module Packing Instructions

  1. Place the bottom chassis foam in the bottom of the shipping box.

  2. Place the module on a table with the plastic sheeting underneath it, with at least 2ft (.6m). of plastic sheeting behind the module.

  3. Cut a length of sheeting 4.5 ft. (140 cm) long. Wrap the module with the sheeting and tape the sheeting to the module in the locations shown below.

  4. On both ends of the module, fold the excess plastic inward and then toward the center of the module. Tape the plastic in the locations shown below.

  5. Place the module in the box on top the bottom chassis foam, The chassis foam has a specific side for the front of the module (shown below).

  6. Place the top chassis foam piece on the top of the module. The chassis foam has a specific side for the front of the module (shown below).

  7. Place the accessory kit tray and accessory kit on top of the top chassis foam.

  8. Place the slip sheet on top of the accessory tray.

  9. Place the shipping box on the pallet.

  10. Close the shipping box and tape the top of the box in the locations indicated below.

  11. Attach the shipping label to the box.

  12. Use the strapping kit to strap the shipping box to the container.
