Licensing
The features of the DXi9000 Series are enabled through licensing options, which are available through the remote management console (see Licensing).
Licenses are either factory-installed on the DXi9000 Series, or they are available through a license authorization code certificate upon purchase.
The following DXi9000 Series licenses are below:
The Backup Application Specific license allows you to export virtual media directly to a maximum of
The Backup Application Specific option works with the following backup applications:
- Veritas NetBackup 7.1.x and higher — direct-to-tape feature
- Veritas Backup Exec 2010 R3 and higher
- Oracle Secure Backup 10.3
- Atempo Time Navigator
Note: EMC NetWorker 8.1 and later do not support Backup Application Specific Path to Tape.
Note: For more information, see the DXi Backup Application Specific Path to Tape Configuration Guide.
When the Path to Tape feature is enabled and configured, backup data can be moved directly from the DXi9000 Series system to a tape library. For a list of supported tape libraries and tape drives for Backup Application Specific Configuration, see the tables below:

The Data-at-Rest Encryption license enables data-at-rest encryption for systems with self-encrypting drives (SEDs). This license is factory installed on all systems with SED drives.
The Data-in-Flight Encryption license enables use of AES encryption (128-bit, 256-bit, or TLS with AES 256) when replicating data to another system. Data in Flight is factory-installed per capacity ordered on all new DXi9000 Series systems.
The Data Deduplication license allows the DXi9000 Series to reduce the size of data stored on the system through the deduplication process (see Data Reduction). (License key is pre-installed on all DXi9000 Series systems.)
The DAE license enables the use of a virtual machine (VM) environment on the DXi9000 Series (The DAE license key is optionally purchased. This license will be either factory installed with initial system purchase or provided by certificate if ordered post sale.).
The Network Attached Storage (NAS) license allows NAS shares to be exposed to backup hosts and applications. (License key is pre-installed on all DXi9000 Series systems.)
OST license, when enabled, allows a Open Storage Technology (OST) connection. For Veritas users with specific versions of the software, another replication option is available for DXi9000 Series models through the Veritas OpenStorage (OST) API. (License key pre-installed on all DXi9000 Series systems.)
The Replication license allows the DXi9000 Series to replicate data to up to two target systems and received replicated data from up to ten source systems. In systems using DXi 4.1 software or later, the DXi9000 Series can receive replicated data from up to
The Storage Capacity license is factory-installed for the installed capacity. Additional capacity requires a certificate license key. This license allows the storage capacity of the DXi9000 Series to be increased. (License key is pre-installed on all DXi9000 Series systems.)
The VDMS license enables the integration of VDMS backup and recovery. This license will be either factory installed with initial system purchase or provided by certificate if ordered post sale.
The Virtual Tape Library (VTL) license allows virtual devices such as the media changer and tape drive to be exposed to the attached Fibre Channel hosts.
