Install

Identify a suitable location for the system.

• The area should be clean, dust-free area that is well ventilated.
• Avoid areas where heat, electrical noise and electromagnetic fields are generated.

• Leave enough clearance to allow sufficient space for airflow and access when servicing the system.

  • In front of the rack allow enough space to open the front door completely (~25 inches).
  • In the back of the rack allow approximately 30 inches of clearance.
• The system:
  • Should be installed only in a Restricted Access Location (dedicated equipment rooms, service closets, etc.).

  • Is not suitable for use with visual display workplace devices.

• The system requires a grounded AC power outlet.

These industry standard warnings:

• Warn the user of situations which have the potential for bodily injury.
• Should you have questions or experience difficulty, refer to Contacting Quantum for additional information.
• Only certified technicians should attempt to install or configure the system components.

 

Caution: The system, with no drives installed, weighs 75 pounds (34 kilograms). Use a lift or two persons to move the unit to its installation location.

There are a variety of cabinets (rack units) on the market, which may require a slightly different assembly procedure.

• The following is a basic guideline for installing the system into a cabinet (rack unit) with the mounting hardware provided.
• Refer to the installation instructions that came with the specific cabinet (rack unit) you are using.
• The rails and the related hardware should have been included with the system.

• This rail fits a rack between 26.5" and 36.4" deep.

Note: Determine where you want to place the server in the cabinet. Normally heavier units are installed at the bottom of the cabinet for stability.

WARNING: Stability hazard. The cabinet stabilizing mechanism must be in place, or the cabinet must be bolted to the floor before you slide the unit out for servicing. Failure to stabilize the cabinet can cause the cabinet to tip over.

1. Locate the left and right inner rails and attach them to the left and right side of the chassis as follows:

   1. Place the inner rail firmly against the side of the chassis, aligning the hooks on the side of the storage chassis with the holes in the inner rail.

   2. Slide the inner rail forward toward the front of the chassis until the rail clicks into the locked position, which secures the inner rail to the chassis.

   3. Secure the inner rail to the chassis with the screws provided.

   4. Repeat steps "a" through "c" above for the other inner rail.

2. Locate the outer rails for the rack.

   Note: The rails might be in two sections (front and rear). The front section of the rails are labeled "R" for right and "L" for left.

3. Assemble the right and left, front and rear sections, of the outer rails for the rack.

4. Install the two outer rail assemblies (align the rails at the same "U" location to ensure the pin on the chassis aligns in the rails), one on the left (L) and one on the right (R), at the same height in the rack.

   Note: Ensure the black-plastic pins (spring-loaded) on the front and rear of the rails snap securely into the holes in the rack's front and rear posts.

5. Pull the middle rail all the way out before inserting the chassis (with inner rail) into the rails installed in the cabinet.

   

6. Use two people or a lift, align the two rear inner rails attached to the chassis, with the grooves in the middle rails (inside the outer rail assemblies).

7. Ensure that all four handles (2 on each side of the chassis) are stowed in the down position.

8. Slide the chassis all the way into the back of the middle/outer rail assemblies.

   

9. Use the two thumb screws on the front of the unit to secure the chassis to the front of the rack.

The VS4160-HCI system uses a one-piece cable management arm (CMA) that allows the unit to be serviced while the system is running.

• The CMA keeps the rear cables organized and clear of the rail mechanisms when the system is extended out from the rack.

• The CMA attaches to your VS4160-HCI rails using four numbered connectors.

1. Remove the CMA parts from its shipping box.

   

   Note: The yellow connectors are stamped with numbers (1-4) to help identify them when installing the CMA.

2. Use the following image to locate the CMA items for installation in the back of the VS4160-HCI system.

3. Slide connector 1 into the left-rear side of the chassis inner rail until it snaps into place.

   

4. Slide connector 2 into the left-rear side of the chassis middle rail until it snaps into place.

   

5. Slide connector 3 into the right-rear side of the chassis middle rail until it snaps into place.

   

6. Slide connector 4 into the right-rear side of the chassis outer rail until it snaps into place.

   

7. Open the red plastic caps on the CMA and route the cables through the CMA (when cables are being installed).

   

8. Use the blue Velcro straps to secure the cables to the CMA; fasten the straps as follows:

   1. One strap on each side of each hinge
   2. One strap near connector 1
   3. One strap near connector 4
9. Close the red plastic caps on the CMA when all cables are routed and installed on the VS4160-HCI system.
10. Move any of the red plastic caps (or any hardware) if it is not clearing the power supplies (PSU0 and PSU1).

11. Gently slide the chassis forward and backwards to ensure the CMA is operating smoothly.

    Note: If the CMA is not operating smoothly, loosen the straps to allow better motion.

    Caution: Ensure all cables are secure and none are protruding from the CMA. This might cause chafing of the cables.

    

WARNING: Stability hazard. The rack unit stabilizing mechanism must be in place, or the rack unit must be bolted to the floor before you slide the unit out for servicing. Failure to stabilize the rack can cause the rack to tip over.

Note: Remove the bezel if attached to the system. If the unit is secured to the rack, loosen the two thumbscrews on the front of the unit.

1. Pull the system forward until the rails are fully extended and the cover can be opened unobstructed.

2. Release the two thumbscrews on the right side of the chassis.

3. Lift the cover up to access the drive installation area.

   Note: The cover is designed to hold itself in an open position without additional support. The cover is designed to swing open to a maximum angle of 100 degrees.

   WARNING: Always insert the drives from back to front of the system. The system, with 60 drives installed, weighs 187 pounds (85 kilograms).

   

4. Ensure the drive handle is in the up position.

5. Slide the drive into its slot in the chassis.
6. Push the drive handle down until it clicks into the locked position.

7. Install drives in slots 45-59.

   

8. Install drives in slots 30-44.

   

9. Install drives in slots 15-29.

   

10. Install drives in slots 0-14.

    

11. Close the cover and secure it with the two thumbscrews on the right side of the storage chassis.

12. Slide the system into the rack.
13. When the system has been pushed completely into the rack, tighten the two front-thumbscrews.

14. Install bezel.

    

WARNING: Stability hazard. The rack unit stabilizing mechanism must be in place, or the rack unit must be bolted to the floor before you slide the unit out for servicing. Failure to stabilize the rack can cause the rack to tip over.

Note: Remove the bezel if attached to the system. If the unit is secured to the rack, loosen the two thumbscrews on the front of the unit.

   WARNING: Always insert the drives from back to front of the system (slots 35-0). The system, with 36 drives installed, weighs 141 pounds (64 kilograms).

10. Close the cover and secure it with the two thumbscrews on the right side of the storage chassis.

1. Connect the following cables/cords to the system (if not already connected):

   • Connect the two power cords to the power supplies and to cabinet (rack) AC power.

     Note: You must use a monitor, keyboard and mouse or the IPMI LAN port to configure the system.

   • Optional: Connect the monitor using the VGA port.
   • Optional: Connect the keyboard and mouse using USB the ports.
   • Optional: Connect the IPMI LAN cableVS4160-HCI (Callout 5) on VS4160-HCI.

   • Refer to the following illustration to verify that all cables are connected to the system.

2. Power on the system by pressing the power button on the bottom left of the server control panel.

   Note: It will take the system approximately 6 minutes to boot up.

This section describes how to configure the network settings and enable the Windows Virtual Machine (VM) so you can access the network interfaces from outside the VS4160-HCI.

Note: This procedure assumes you are running Windows 10 on the computer. The steps might be different if you are using another operating system.

Networking Considerations

The VS4160-HCI default network IP addresses and initial installation credentials are available at Access Default Login Credentials. In addition, you can print a copy of the Network IP Checklist to help you record your IP addresses. If you are installing multiple VS4160-HCI systems, Quantum recommends that you record all IP information.

Note: Do not use the Management Port for your initial connection to the VS4160-HCI. It will be used later in the procedure to connect to the Host OS and the Windows Virtual Machines (VMs). The Management Port is used for general LAN access. The Management Port's default protocol is set to DHCP.

The easiest way to access the BMC is to configure the network settings on your laptop to use static network settings to create the direct, local link connection from the laptop to the VS4160-HCI server, as described in the following steps.

Note: The baseboard management controller (BMC) manages the interface between system-management software and platform hardware.

Additional information is as follows:

• Keep in mind that the following steps may differ for your situation, depending on your Windows version.

• Quantum supports the following browsers for VS products:

  • Google Chrome v77.0.3865.75

  • Mozilla Firefox v69.0 (64-bit)

  • Microsoft Edge v44.18362.329.0

• Contact your network administrator for your server's company-specific IP address. Otherwise, use the default BMC IP address provided in Access Default Login Credentials.

1. Using an Ethernet cable, connect the Ethernet port on a notebook computer to the IPMI/BMC port.

   Note: The IPMI/BMC LAN port is set by default to a static IP address of 192.168.17.21. If you plan to connect the IPMI/BMC port to a network, Quantum recommends first changing the port's IP address to prevent any conflicts.

   

2. Access the Network Connections control panel. To do this, right-click Start on the taskbar.

   

3. Click the Network Connections in the Start menu.

   The Network status window appears.

4. In the Change your network settings section, click Change adapter options.

   

   The Network Connections window appears.

5. Double-click Local Area Connection.

   

6. Right-click the network connection that corresponds to the Ethernet port on the computer (for example, Local Area Connection), and click Properties.

   Note: Quantum recommends writing down the settings in this dialog before you change them. You can refer to this information when you reset these settings to their original values, after you finish using this local network connection.

7. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the list of connections, then click Properties.

   The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window displays.

8. Select Use the following IP address, then enter the following information:

   • IP address: 192.168.17.100

   • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

     

9. Click OK, then click Close.
10. Wait at least two minutes for the computer to set the IP addresses on the local computer.

11. In your browser, type the BMC IP address for the server, 192.168.17.21, in the address bar, and press Enter.

    The login dialog appears.

    

    Note: If the Login window does not display, verify that you entered the correct server IP address, and that the network settings on the computer are correct. Wait ten minutes, then try again. If the Login window still does not display, see Contacting Quantum for assistance.

12. Type ADMIN for the Username, then press Enter.

    If the username changed during installation, use your company-specified username.

13. Type the default password for the Password, then press Enter.

    • If the password has been changed, use your company-specified password.

    • The default password is printed on a label attached on the left-top of the VS4160-HCI.

      Note: You must change the password the first time you log in to the BMC. Be sure to make note of the new password.

      The Server Home Screen appears.

      

14. At the top of the screen, click the Remote Control list to change the left-side navigation to display Remote Control options.

    Note: At this point, you can use either an HTML5 or Java Viewer to access the Host OS console.
    Quantum recommends you use HTML5 to access the Host OS console.

1. In the navigation on the left, click iKVM/HTML5.

   The iKVM/HTML5 screen appears.

   

2. Click OK to accept the End User License Agreement.

 

1. In the navigation on the left, click Console Redirection.

   The Console Redirection screen appears.

   

2. Click Launch Console to download the launch.jnlp file from the VS4160-HCI node to your laptop.

3. A download confirmation message asks if you want to keep launch.jnlp; click Keep.

   

4. Click the downloaded launch.jnlp file to launch it.

5. A confirmation message asks if you want to access the web site from which the Java application will be launched. Click Continue.

   

6. A confirmation message asks if you want to run Java. Click Run.

   

   The Host OS Console appears.

7. If this is the first time that you accessed the Host OS console, the End User License Agreement displays. Click OK to accept it.

   

1. Locate the following ports on the rear of the VS4160-HCI system.

   • VGA console
   • Keyboard

   • Mouse

2. Connect a USB keyboard to one of the two USB 3.0 ports (item1 or 2).
3. Connect a USB mouse to the remaining USB 3.0 port (item 1 or 2).

4. Connect a monitor/console to the VGA port (item3).

   Note: If you use the monitor, keyboard, and mouse to connect to the VS4160-HCI system, skip to the Configure Your System's Settings section.

5. The End User License Agreement displays. Click OK to accept it.

   

Note: All setting will not be applied (saved) until exiting the Setup Wizard.

Use the Setup Wizard—which you can open through the VS-Settings Menu—to initially configure a node. With the Setup Wizard, you can complete the following tasks in one, continual process:

• Change the Admin password

• Set up the management network

• Set up the email proxy and email notification recipients (optional)

• Change the time zone

• Set the system's time (optional)

• Change the default BMC IP address and BMC Admin account password (optional)

• Create Windows VMs

1. Double-click VS-Settings to open the VS-Settings Menu.

   

2. In the VS-Settings Menu, type 0, then press Enter to open the Setup Wizard.

   

The default admin password for the admin user is “admin,” but it should be changed to your company's preferred string after installation. You will be prompted for the new password.

1. At the "Type old password for user admin" prompt, type admin, then press Enter.

   

2. Type the new password, then press Enter.
3. Type the new password again, then press Enter to confirm it.

If you change the IP address protocol from DHCP to static, you will be prompted to change the following items in the management network:

• IP address

• Netmask

• Gateway

• DNS 1

• DNS 2

• DNS 3

• Hostname

• Domain

You can also enable jumbo frames, if needed.

1. Review the default settings.
   1. To keep them, type n at the Change Current Settings prompt, then press Enter.

   2. To change them, type y, press Enter, and then enter your changes at the prompts that follow.

      

2. Press Enter to accept the default (DHCP) protocol, or type static and press Enter if you want to configure a static IP address for the system.

3. If you selected a static IP configuration, enter the management network settings for your system that are listed below; then press Enter.
   If you want to accept a setting's default, just press Enter.

   • IP address

   • Network Mask

   • Gateway

   • DNS1

   • DNS2

   • DNS3

     

4. Enable jumbo frames ONLY if jumbo frames are enabled in the switch for the port; otherwise, communications issues between the server and destination will result.
   If you want to enable jumbo frames, and if they are supported by the switch, enter y at the Enable Jumbo Frames prompt, then press Enter.
5. Enter the new hostname, then press Enter.

6. Enter the new domain name, then press Enter.

   

7. When you finish entering the management network settings, the Agree to New Settings prompt appears; press y to confirm your changes, then press Enter.

   Note: Changes to network settings are applied when you exit the menu.

Enter the fully-qualified domain name or IP address of the mail server that will send email notifications about RAS tickets and alerts, then the email addresses that will receive them.

1. At the Change email settings prompt, type y, then press Enter.

   

2. At the Email relay host prompt, type the fully qualified domain name or the IP address for your relay host email server, then press Enter.
3. At the Type a list of 1 or more space separated email addresses prompt, type email addresses that will receive RAS tickets and alerts, then press Enter. Quantum Support will also receive tickets and alerts.

Enter the time zone by first selecting a continent or ocean, then a country, then a state or region. Typically, the system time is set by default.

1. At the Would you like to change the timezone prompt, type y, then press Enter.

2. Enter the number for the applicable continent or ocean (1 though 10), then press Enter.

   

3. Enter the number for the applicable country, then press Enter.

   

4. Enter the number for the appropriate state (or region), then press Enter.

   

5. The system confirms your time zone selections; if they are correct, type 1, then press Enter.

   • If they are incorrect, type 2, then press Enter.

   • You will be prompted again to enter the number for the applicable continent or ocean (see Step 2).

     

The system time is typically set by default.

Note: It is recommended that the default time is accepted, and that you do not change the system's time. If it is necessary to change the system’s local time, various formats can be specified for the manual time.

You can change the date and time as shown in the menu instructions. To change the system time, enter the desired time in 24-hour format, then press Enter.

You can change the default BMC IP address to an IP that matches your local subnet, if needed.

• You might want to do this to access a console connection through the BMC without having to connect directly with a laptop.
• You can also change the password for the default ADMIN user account on the BMC.

Note: If you are connected to the BMC, changing these settings will disconnect you from your session, and you will need to reconnect using the new settings.

1. On the current BMC port settings display, at the Would you like to change the BMC settings prompt, type y, then press Enter.

   

2. Type the new BMC network settings, pressing Enter after every change:

   • BMC IP address

   • BMC Netmask

   • BMC Gateway IP

     Note: To accept a current setting, just press Enter.

3. Type a new BMC Admin password twice to change the password from its current setting.

Windows VM characteristics include:

• Each Windows VM (Management, Recorder, Customer_1 and Customer_2) will have 24GB of memory allocated to the VM.

• The Management and Recorder VMs have a fixed boot drive (C:\) of size 110GB.
• The Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs can have a variable sized boot drive from 110GB to 2048GB each.
• The Recorder VM (on each node in a cluster) has direct access to all the LUNs/Volumes on the QCSP storage for that node and will have drive letters mapped to the storage.
• Dual-port 10GbE card with port 1 mapped directly to the Recorder VM for camera feeds and port 2 shared between the Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs.
• 4x10GbE LAN ports:
  • Port 1 is for shared Management LAN access by all VMs and the HostOS
  • Ports 2 and Ports 3 are used for a dedicated Cluster network between two nodes

  • Port 4 is shared network port between the Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs

    Note: The Management, Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs have HA capabilities in clustered configurations

To create VMs during the initial configuration of the system, do the following at the Create Virtual Machines step.

Note: Do not create any VMs (Management, Recorder, Customer_1 or Customer_2) on node 2 for an HA configuration until the cluster is fully configured.

1. At the Your Choice prompt, type the number corresponding to the VM that you want to create. Then press Enter.

   Note: You must create one Management VM and one Recorder VM for each system or HA pair if you will be running Milestone. Creating Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs is optional if installing other software.

   

2. When the first VM is being created, you will be prompted to allocate space for Customer_1 and Customer_2 VMs.:

   • If there is no plan to ever create these VMs on the node or cluster then this prompt can be answered with “n”.
   • If these VM(s) are going to be needed now or in the future on this system or cluster, then this prompt should be answered with “y”.
   • If answered with “y”, then a prompt will appear asking for how much space you want to allocate for the boot drives for Customer_1 and/or Customer_2 VMs.

   • The boot drives can vary in size from 110G to 2048G for each VM.

     Note: Quantum recommends you enter a size of at least 225GB and press Enter. Once this size is entered, it cannot be changed (increased or decreased).

   

3. If you are creating a Customer_1 or Customer_2 VM, there will be an additional prompt for the size of the boot drive to create for the VM and a valid size range will be provided.

   • Input the desired size for the boot drive.

   • At the Enter a unique name for this VM if desired? prompt, enter a unique name that meets the requirements shown (up to 30 characters, but no spaces, quotes, or special characters) and press Enter.

     Note: If you do not enter a unique name, the VM will be assigned the default name shown in brackets.

   

4. If the node is part of a clustered configuration, a prompt will ask you to select the number of the node on which the VM should be created; the default is node 1.

   • Enter the node number and press Enter.

   • If the node is not part of a cluster, you will not see this prompt.

5. Repeat steps 1-4, where applicable, for each additional VM you want to create.

6. When you are finished creating VMs, type q then press Enter to exit the Setup menu and complete the initial configuration.

   Note: Any pending network changes will now be applied. If you are connected to the BMC and you change the BMC address and password, you will be disconnected from your session and you will need to reconnect using the new settings.

   Note: If you are configuring a two node HA system, repeat Steps 7a-7h for the other node before creating a multi-node cluster.

To complete the setup of your system’s Windows VMs, complete the steps below for each of the Windows VMs you have created.

1. In the VM Status window, double-click the VM that you want to configure.

   

2. Change your country, language, and keyboard selections as needed, then click Next.

   

3. In the License Terms screen, click Accept to accept the end-user license agreement.

   

4. In the Customize Settings screen, set the password for the Administrator account, then click Finish.

   

   Note: The initial Windows license is a 180-day trial.

   The Window Power Shell displays initializing progress, including:

   • Waiting for network ports to complete identification
   • Customizing network port names
   • Initializing storage LUN
   • Formatting NTFS partition on storage LUN
   • Assigning a drive letter

   • Disabling file indexing on boot drive

5. An Initialization dialog box informs you that initialization succeeded; click OK to open the Windows lock screen.

   

   Note: If you don’t click OK, the Windows lock screen will appear after about five seconds.

6. Click the Send key at the top of the screen to display the combination list.

   

7. Select Ctrl+Alt+Del to log on to the Windows Console as an Administrator.

8. Enter the Administrator password for the VM you are configuring, then click the arrow.

   

   The Server Manager opens.

9. In addition to the Server Manager Dashboard, a message from Quantum asks if you want your PC to be discovered by other PCs and devices on the network. Click Yes.

   

10. Close the Service Manager Dashboard.

The Windows VM comes with a 180-day trial license.

• If you purchased a Windows Server 2019 product key, follow the steps below to enter the key.

• This step is not required during initial configuration.

1. In an administrative command line interface, enter the following command at the prompt:

   DISM /Online /Set-Edition:ServerStandard /ProductKey:[XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX] /AcceptEula

   

   Note: A delay occurs at 10 percent progress.

2. At the Do you want to restart the computer now? prompt, type Y, then press Enter.

Use the steps in this section to configure a static IP address for the Windows VM network ports.

Note: Use this process to configure the applicable management and CameraNet ports. This process is an example of setting up the management port.

1. Right click Start on the taskbar, then click Network Connections in the Start menu.

   

   The Network Status window displays.

   

2. In the Change your network settings section, click Change adapter options.

   Network connections display in the Network Connections window.

3. Double-click Management to view the Management connection’s status. Then, click Properties to open the Management Properties window.

   

4. In the Management Properties window, click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) to open the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box.

   

5. Click Use the following IP address, then enter the following:

   • IP address
   • Subnet mask IP address

   • Default gateway IP address

     Then click Use the following DNS server address, and enter the IP address for the Preferred DNS Server.

     

     Click OK to return to the Management Properties dialog box.

6. In the Management Properties dialog box, click Close to return to the Management Status dialog box.
7. In the Management Status dialog box, click Close to return to the Network Connections window.
8. Close the Network Connections window, then close the Network Status screen.

To confirm that the network IPs are configured for both the VS-series server in CentOS and any IPs that are set in the running Windows VMs, you can review them as follows:

From the Host OS Console double-click the VS-Info.

The VS Information window appears.

Note: Windows Remote Desktop is automatically enabled on Windows VMs. For a more user-friendly Windows experience, it is recommended that you access your Windows VMs using Remote Desktop. In the Remote Desktop application, enter the Windows Management IP for the VM you want to access.

Note: This is a representative example of attaching a USB storage device for windows.

To install or transfer files or software from a local USB device to a Windows VM, you will need install the USB device into the VS4160-HCI. Then, Windows can access the storage device. The USB device must have a supported Windows format (NTFS or FAT32).

Note: Ensure you detach and remove the USB device when it is not in use. If the device is still attached to a VM, and the VM fails over to the other node in the cluster, the USB device won’t physically exist on the other node. As a result, the USB device will be inaccessible, and the fail over could result in errors.

1. Install the USB device into the VS4160-HCI (USB ports on rear of system).

2. Access the Host OS console.

   

3. In the VM Status window, double-click the VM that you want to configure.

4. Click on "File" and select "USB device selection".

   :

5. On the "Select USB devices for redirection" screen, select the USB device.

   

6. Close the "Select USB devices for redirection" screen.

   Note: You will receive a Windows notification that a new volume is attached.

7. Close the "Select USB devices for redirection" screen.

   

   The Windows VM console appears

8. Click on the "File Explorer" icon at the bottom of the screen.

   

   The "File Explorer" screen appears with the "New Volume"

   .

To remove the USB device from the VS server:

1. Click on "File" and select "USB device selection".

   

   The "Select USB devices for redirection" screen appears.

   

2. Clear the "USB device".

   

3. Close the "Select USB devices for redirection" screen.

   

   Now you can safely remove the USB device from the VS4160-HCI.

Note: If you are configuring a two node HA system, ensure Steps 7a-7h are completed for both nodes before creating a multi-node cluster.

Clustering multiple nodes together provides high availability for the VMs that support it. If Node 1 fails or is rebooting, a high availability VM automatically fails over to Node 2.

You must configure the nodes’ numbers before you can cluster them together. Nodes must be configured with a number only if they will be clustered.

1. Verify that the two cluster network ports are connected on Node 1 and Node 2.

   • Connect Node 1 Port 2 to Node 2 Port 2.
   • Connect Node 1 Port 3 to Node 2 Port 3.

2. Access the Host OS Console on the system that you want to establish as "Node 1".

   

3. Double-click VS-Settings to open the VS-Settings Menu.

   

4. In the VS-Settings Menu, enter 2, then press Enter to open the Clustering Menu.

   

5. To establish Node 1, enter 1 in the Cluster Tasks Menu, then press Enter.

   

6. A confirmation message displays informing you that the VM on the Node 1 will be preserved after the cluster is created.

   Type y, then press Enter to continue configuring the node’s number.

   

   The system indicates when it successfully set the node, then returns to the Cluster Tasks Menu.

   

1. Access the Host OS Console on the system that you want to establish as "Node 2".

   

2. Double-click VS-Settings to open the VS-Settings Menu.

   

3. In the VS-Settings Menu, enter 2, then press Enter to open the Clustering Menu.

   

4. To establish Node 2, enter 2 in the Cluster Tasks Menu, then press Enter.

   

5. A confirmation message displays informing you that the VM on the Node 2 will be preserved after the cluster is created.

   Type y, then press Enter to continue configuring the node’s number.

   

   The system indicates when it successfully set the node, then returns to the Cluster Tasks Menu.

   

Note: If Node 1 has a VM, the VM will automatically start after the clustering process is complete.

1. Access the Cluster Tasks Menu, type 3 to add a node to a cluster; then press Enter.

   

2. A note informs you that the VM will restart while clustering the nodes together.

   • Type y to confirm that you want to cluster Nodes 1 and 2 together, and then press Enter.

   • Clustering can take a approximately 10 minutes; allow the process to finish.

     

     While creating the cluster, the system notifies you of its progress, including:

     • Checking the status of the VM
     • Checking access to the nodes
     • Connecting the nodes

     • Getting hostnames

     • Enabling firewalls
     • Installing the VM on one node
     • Creating DRBD device

     • Enabling DRBD failover on the cluster

       Example of "Join nodes 1 and 2 into a cluster" screen below.

       Note: You may disregard the messages as they scroll through the screen, they are for informational purpose only (showing clustering progress).

       

     When the processes is finished, the Cluster Tasks Menu displays and the clustering is complete.

     

     Note: A yellow VS-Cluster icon appears on the Host OS console. The icon turns green when DRBD sync between the nodes is complete and the system is ready for HA failover.

     

3. Connect any additional 10GbE LAN cables per customer's requirement.

Cloud-Based Analytics enables the VS4160-HCI to collect data about the VS-Series System and environment performance. The collected data is bundled and uploaded to the remote Cloud-Based Analytics server for analysis.

When Cloud-Based Analytics is enabled, your VS-Series System collects performance data at regular ten-minute intervals, or at an appropriate interval for the given metric. All data that is collected is stored locally in system cache.

Data collected with Cloud-Based Analytics includes the following:

• Cluster-level statistics about the hypervisor, virtual machines, and aggregated statistics from the portal for VS4160-HCI use
• Device-specific specific statistics for CPU usage, memory usage, and network activity
• Count of events, such as system restarts and number of times the system stops working

• Log file entries, including the level of the entry (error, warning, fatal, or fail)

Data policies ensure the security and privacy of your uploaded data. The following information is not included with a data upload:

• Passwords or encryption keys
• Network architecture
• Proprietary or confidential data
• All on-premise communication to the Cloud-Based Analytics server uses a secure https connection via port 443
• The DNS hostname api-as.quantum.com must be resolvable by the device on which the Cloud-Based Analytics agent is enabled
• For Cloud-Based Analytics, only port 443 needs to be open through the on-premise firewall
• No connections from the Cloud-Based Analytics server back to on-premise system are required or used

Cloud-Based Analytics is enabled and disabled through the VS-Settings Menu.

1. Launch the Host OS Console.

2. Double-click VS-Settings to open the VS-Settings Menu.

   

   

3. Type 4 to open the Service Tasks Menu, then press Enter.

4. In the Service Tasks Menu, type 8 to enable or disable Cloud-Based Analytics (CBA); then press Enter.

   

5. The system informs you that Cloud-Based Analytics is disabled, and asks you if you want to enable it; type y, then press Enter.

   The system then lets you know that Cloud-Based Analytics is enabled.

   

   • Upload

     • Your VS-Series System will automatically upload the data bundles to the Cloud-Based Analytics server every four hours.

     • The uploaded data bundles supply the Cloud-Based Analytics server with current statistics, which in turn provides the opportunity for early identification of any problems with the your VS-Series System.

   • Analyze

     • After data is uploaded to the Cloud-Based Analytics server, it is analyzed to determine the status of the VS-Series System.

     • You can access information about the uploaded data on the Cloud-Based Analytics dashboard (at: insight.quantum.com).

       This displays the analytic results of the uploaded data through flexible charting tools, along with an overall health score of the VS-Series System.

   • Request a Cloud-Based Analytics Account

     To request an account for Cloud-Based Analytics, click the "Request an account" link on the Cloud-Based Analytics site at insight.quantum.com.

   • Cloud-Based Analytics Results

     • You can access your VS-Series System performance and health results on the Cloud-Based Analytics dashboard (at: insight.quantum.com).
     • This dashboard displays the analytic results of the uploaded Cloud-Based Analytics data using flexible charting tools, along with an overall health score of the VS-Series System configured for the Cloud-Based Analytics account.
