Scalar and Other Tape Libraries: Understanding Tape Drive Performance

Performance specifications for any tape drive define what a drive is capable of producing in perfect, ideal conditions. Unfortunately, conditions are almost never perfect or ideal in your average library installation. There are many variables that can affect performance, and as a result, troubleshooting these issues can be a complex and challenging task.

Scalar 50: How can I find the library serial number?

  • Physical Location

You can access the serial number from two separate physical locations:

    1. From the home screen on the Operator Control Panel (OCP), which is located on the front of the library: OCP

Verify the library serial number (QP0707AFD00180) on the S/N field.

    2. From the top back of the unit, as displayed in the racked image: Scalar
  • Remote Identification

Use this procedure to access the serial number from the Remote Management Interface (RMI).

There are three distinct ways to find the product serial number on a Scalar 50 library:

Finding the Serial Number from the Physical location

You can find the serial number on the back of the library on the part number-serial number label. The serial number will be a 10-digit number (for example, QP0738BDC00189 or QP0732BDC00032, as in the image below).
