StorNext RAS Message - File System component [X] : License failed
The StorNext RAS message File System component [X] : License failed has 12 subtypes, based on the type of license failure. The ‘SR Notes’ section at the bottom of the RAS message describes the particular failure subtype. Please see the section below for explanations of each subtype.
You can find licensing information in the StorNext Licensing Guide, available either on the Quantum website or through the GUI by selecting Help > Documentation and selecting this guide.
You can view the current state of your licenses from the GUI, including capacity limits and expiration, by selecting Configuration > Licenses.
You can make license requests online by going to http://www.quantum.com/serviceandsupport/license/stornext/index.aspx, or by calling Quantum Support.
- “One or more licenses will expire in …”
This message is an early warning that one or more currently licensed features will expire. Please contact Quantum for renewal.
- “One or more licenses have expired.”
One or more of your previously licensed features have expired. Please contact Quantum for renewal.
- “Permanent and temporary licenses are not allowed together”
This message displays if the license file (/usr/cvfs/license.dat) contains both temporary and permanent licenses. This is not allowed.
If this message displays, please use the GUI to import the permanent license that was provided by Quantum to correct this issue:
- On the primary MDC, in the GUI, select Configuration > Licenses.
- At the bottom of the page, click the Import button and browse to the permanent license file supplied by Quantum.
- Select the permanent license and click close.
The license will be imported to both the primary and secondary (if HA is enabled) MDCs. An information bar near the top of the GUI will reflect the successful import of the license.
- “The ‘maintenance’ license is invalid”
Your current license does not contain a valid ‘Maintenance’ feature license. Without this license you cannot contact Quantum Support for issues, and you cannot upgrade your current system to a newer version. Please contact Quantum to renew your ‘maintenance’ license.
- “Unexpected license error (code X)”
While running a license check, the software has detected a problem. Please contact Quantum Support for assistance.
- “License ‘<feature>’ approaching max capacity of …”
This is a warning that you are nearing the limit of a capacity-based StorNext licensed feature. If you wish to increase your licensed capacity, please contact Quantum.
You can review the limits of all your capacity-based features in the GUI by selecting Configuration > Licenses.
- “License ‘<feature>’ has reached max capacity of …”
You have reached the limit of the capacity-based StorNext licensed feature specified in the message. Please contact Quantum to increase the capacity for this feature.
You can review the limits of all your capacity-based features in the GUI, by selecting Configuration > Licenses.
- “Unlicensed gateway ‘<hostname>’ connected when only licensed gateways…”
For a client to function as a distributed LAN server, a gateway license is required. If this RAS message displays, the client specified in the message has used the mount option diskproxy=server, but this functionality has been disabled due to a missing gateway license.
Please contact Quantum if you wish to purchase a gateway license. Otherwise, you can remove the mount option on the client to avoid receiving this message in the future.
For information about licensing options, see the StorNext Licensing Guide, available on the Quantum website, or through the GUI by selecting Help > Documentation and then selecting this guide.
- “<Client> (####) license has expired. All further operations with client not permitted!”
The specified client requires an active license and cannot function until the license has been updated. Please contact Quantum if you wish to purchase an updated license.
- “Node ‘<client>’ [##] failed license authentication”
The client specified in the message has failed license authentication. Please contact Quantum Support for this issue.
- “License error occurred: …”
The remaining part of the message specifies the particular error. These include:
- “Server Failed License Authentication”
- “Missing or Invalid License”
In many cases, this message displays either because the license was not loaded into the MDC correctly through the GUI, or because an invalid license was used.
Try reloading the Quantum-supplied license. If this does not correct the issue, please contact Quantum Support for assistance.
- “Failed license validation for [Hybrid] LAN client …”
The license capacity limit for the number of LAN clients has been exceeded. Please contact Quantum to purchase additional LAN client licenses. You can view the current limit in the GUI by selecting Configuration > Licenses
