Scalar i3 Status

Overview

The Status menu allows you to view status information for the system hardware as well as library status and usage information. The Status menu allows you to do the following:

Layout

Shows a list of available component sensors and their current status details. This includes system humidity, temperature and power. Clicking the + next to a sensor expands it so you can get specific details on a specific sensor.

Humidity Description
Tape Storage Humidity Sensor Indicates real-time humidity reading of the entire library. The upper and lower humidity thresholds can be set using the Modify the Temperature and Humidity Settings configuration below. If the library humidity falls outside of the set lower and upper threshold range, a RAS ticket will be generated.
Robot Humidity Sensor Indicates real-time humidity reading of the robot.
Temperature Description
Tape Storage Temperature Sensor Indicates real-time temperature reading of the entire library. The upper and lower temperature thresholds can be set using the Modify the Temperature and Humidity Settings configuration below. If the library temperature falls outside of the set lower and upper threshold range, a RAS ticket will be generated.
Library Dew Point Temperature Sensor Indicates current library dew point. The library dew point threshold is set at 22C.
Robot Temperature Sensor Indicates real-time temperature reading of the robot.
Power Consumption Description
Library Power Supply Lists all power supplies in the library and their current power consumption in Watts.

Displays details of the highlighted sensor.

Displays a graphical representation of each subsystem in your library. This includes RAS Tickets, drives and media. If a subsystem is working normally, a green check mark will display next to it. If it has errors, it will have a yellow check mark. If it has failed, a red check mark will display.

Provides options for library service interaction.

Configuration

The Modify feature allows you to set the lower and upper temperature and humidity thresholds for the library. If the temperature or humidity fall outside of this range, a RAS ticket will be generated.

Definition of Terms:

¹ Recommended: The recommended operational/storage environmental envelope provides guidance on the environmental range for optimal performance and high reliability. This environmental range protects for 30-year archival storage. (Derate the maximum recommended dry-bulb temperature by 1°C/300 m above 1,800 m (1.8°F/1,000 feet above 6,000 feet)).

² Allowed: The allowable operational/storage environmental envelope defines the test limits to verify that the equipment will function within the environmental envelope. This environmental range is defined for operational storage of less than 6 months. (Derate the maximum dry-bulb temperature by 1°C/300 m above 900 m (1.8°F/1,000 feet above 3,000 feet)).

Note: The prolonged exposure to conditions outside the recommended range, especially approaching the extremes of the allowable operating environment, can result in decreased equipment reliability and longevity. An occasional short-term excursion into the allowable envelope is generally acceptable but may result in performance and reliability implications and higher power consumption. Additional Information

  • The temperature range can be set between 10°C and 45°C.
  • The humidity range can be set between 5% and 95%.

  • Library temperature and humidity readings may be different than additional temperature and humidity readings within a data center. Temperature and humidity sensors provide status for temperature readings and approximations internal to the library enclosure. External air outside is heated up inside the library enclosure due to numerous factors, such as the frequency of robotic operations and the number of drives and drive operations. This can warm the air by about 2°C to 6°C within the library enclosure. As result of the air heating inside the library, the humidity will also drop within the library enclosure. Keep this in mind when setting library temperature and humidity ranges.

  1. From the Navigation panel, select Status.
  2. In the North Panel, select + next to Humidity or Temperature. Select the appropriate sensor.

  3. In the Operations panel, click Modify.

    Item Description Action
    Temperature Range

    Allows you to set the lower and upper temperature threshold for the library system.

    Set the normal temperature range for the system by using the slide bar or entering the temperature values in the Min and Max boxes.
    Humidity Range

    Allows you to set the lower and upper humidity threshold for the library system.

    Set the normal humidity range for the system by using the slide bar or entering the humidity values in the Min and Max boxes.

  4. Click Apply to save your settings.

  5. Click Close to exit the window.

Actions

This feature allows you to get the latest status on all sensors used by the library. This includes humidity and temperature control as well as power consumption by all library power supplies.

  1. From the Navigation panel, select Status.
  2. In the Operations panel, click Refresh.
