Scalar i3 Library

Shows a graphical representation of your library. When you click an area in the North Panel, specific details about that section of the library pop up to display slot coordinates, media barcode and color of partition it belongs to (if assigned).

Lists all the details of your library.

Displays a graphical representation of how your library is partitioned. The colors match the ones in the partition information that is displayed in the North Panel.

Provides options for library interaction.

This window allows you to set library-specific operational parameters for inventory, drive unload and drive serial number reporting that will be applied and activate upon each reboot operation or library power cycle. Additionally, this window allows for immediate I/E area tape cartridge assignment mode setting to require either local media assignment upon physical tape cartridge placement or via remote User Interface or SCSI host initiated import request.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Settings. The Settings window contains the following:

   

   Operational Parameters

   Select the check box(es) to enable the following parameters. Deselect the check box(es) to disable the following parameters.

   Automatic Inventory

   Enabled	Default setting. Automatically inventories all library content whenever the library powers up.
   Disabled	In this mode, library initialization occurs faster when the library powers up.

   Library-Assisted Drive Unload

   Enabled	Default setting. Will automatically initiate unload operations to a drive if a SCSI move request is received and the drive is not already unloaded.
   Disabled	Drives need to be unloaded by allocated host applications. SCSI move requests from drives that are not already unloaded will fail.

   Logical Drive Serial Number Addressing

   Enabled	Default setting. Drives are configured to report a library unique, drive position unique drive serial number. This methodology allows drive replacements without affecting host configured drive serial number re-configurations as the repeated drive serial number will not change if a drive is replaced.
   Disabled	Installed drives report their physical serial number to attached hosts. Drive replacement operations will cause the replacement drive to report its assigned physical serial number and host applications may have to re-configure drive support if the drive serial number changes.

   Logical System Addressing

   Enabled

   Enabling Logical System Addressing will create a spoofed serial number (SN) and World Wide Name (WWN) of the system. If enabled and applied, this feature allows a library control module or main controller replacement to occur without having to perform SCSI host application re-configuration due to the physical SN change. When Logical System Addressing (LSA) is initially enabled, a unique SN and World Wide Name (WWN) is created and saved. Each time a library reboot occurs, each SCSI host reported partition SN and WWN will be reported based on the spoofed SN/WWN. In addition, the drive device data path access reporting will also be based on the spoofed SN/WWN. Additional Information The spoofed SN is only for SCSI host application reporting. All other functionality based on the physical serial number is maintained. This includes: Saved and restored library images. License key validation. RAS ticket reporting. Physical SN reporting.

   Disabled

   Default setting. SCSI host application reports physical SN. Any change to the physical SN will require SCSI host application re-configuration.

   IE Assignment Mode

   Select the radio button next to the feature you want to use.

   Local UI Assignment	Uses the Control Module (CM) touchscreen (default).
   Remote UI/Host Assignment	Uses the WebGUI.

   Automatic Drive Cleaning Options

   In addition to tape drive requested cleaning needs, you can also configure the number of drive cleanings allowed in any 24 hour period and configure a number of error code based drive cleanings allowed in any 24 hour period.

   Total 24-Hour Drive Cleanings	You can select from 3 to 7 drive cleanings in a 24 hour period. The default setting is 5. If the total requested drive cleanings exceeds what the set limit is in a 24 hour period, the library will drop the requested drive cleaning until a previous cleaning drops out of the 24 hour time window.
   Error Code Based Cleanings	Error code based drive cleanings uses an algorithm that determines if a drive cleaning is required based on error codes that have been reported by the drive. You can select 0 to 3 error code based drive cleanings in a 24 hour period. The default setting is 1. If there is a error code based cleaning request that exceeds the set limit in a 24 hour period, the cleaning will not occur.
   Rewrite Based Cleanings	This drive cleaning option is not currently available.
   Performance Based Cleanings	This drive cleaning option is not currently available.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

This window allows for cleaning slot configurations. Cleaning slots are system assigned, reserved storage slots to store LTO cleaning media for library-initiated, automatic drive cleaning operations (configurable as a partition cleaning policy on a per partition basis), or user-initiated, manual drive cleaning operations. Cleaning slots may be configured anywhere within a storage magazine, preferably close to drive locations for quick and easy robot access. Only unassigned, empty storage slots may be selected for cleaning slot configurations. A reduction in the number of cleaning slots requires the cleaning slot to be empty.

Once cleaning slots are configured, cleaning media can be imported and exported as needed. Cleaning media will be used for drive requested cleaning operations such that the same cleaning media will be selected for library-initiated automatic cleaning again and again until its cleaning count expires. Once expired, the next available cleaning media will be selected for further cleaning operations until it expires also. To prevent uninterrupted automatic cleaning support, a minimum of two cleaning media should be configured to allow for cleaning operations while an expired cleaning tape is no longer usable and awaiting removal and replacement via the cleaning media export and import functionality.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Cleaning Slots. The North Panel shows a graphical representation of current library configuration and identifies available storage slots eligible for cleaning slot selection. There is no limit on the number of configured cleaning slots.

   Cleaning Slot Requirements

   To become a cleaning slot, one of the following requirements must be met:

   • Slot must be empty and unassigned.
   • Slot contains a clearly marked cleaning tape (CLN) and is currently unassigned.

   

3. Select the check box next to a magazine to assign all five (5) slots or click the magazine and select the check box next to a slot to assign it for cleaning.

4. Click Apply to save your settings.

5. Click Close to exit the window.

6. Import cleaning media (see Library Cleaning Tape Import).
7. Assign a cleaning policy (see Partition Cleaning).

The I/E Area is where you assign slots for the importing and exporting of tapes to/from the library. I/E slots are automatically assigned starting from the front of the right magazine on the CM to the rear of the magazine. Additional slots are assigned to the right magazine starting with the module below the CM and then above the CM.

Note: The Scalar i3 library defaults to using the LUI for importing media. If you keep the default setting, you will have to use the LUI to select the partition for the new media. If you want to change the default to use the WebGUI for importing media, see Library Settings.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click I/E Area.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Slots	Allows you to select the number of slots you want to assign as I/E. Depending on the number of slots you have, you can assign slots in increments of 5 up to a maximum of 240 slots.	Select the desired number of slots from the drop-down menu.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

Media Security allows you to be notified by the library when media is expectedly or unexpectedly removed from the library. Unexpected removal refers to tape cartridges that were removed from the library without proper robotic and magazine interaction. Expected removal refers to tape cartridges that were exported and properly removed from an I/E slot. This feature requires an Advanced Reporting license.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Media Security.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Unexpected Media Removal Detection area	This area defines the circumstances when media security is applied if media is removed unexpectedly: Upon Power Up and Reboot - compares last inventory with current library media inventory and notifies of missing or removed media During Library Operation - compares user-initiated full library inventory with the last known library inventory and notifies if media was unexpectedly removed from a magazine slot. From I/E Slots During Library Operation - notifies if user placed media was removed prior to an import operation.	Select the check box next to one or more of the available options to enable. Deselect the check box next to one or more of the available options to disable.
   Expected Media Removal	This area defines the circumstances when media security is applied if media is removed expectedly: From I/E Slots During Library Operation - notifies if media was removed by a user after a robotic export operation.	Select the check box to enable the option. Deselect the check box to disable the option.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

The Scalar i3 provides functionality to coordinate Active Vault operations with an external application, currently only supported by Quantum’s StorNext Scale-Out Storage product.

One or more unique application interface configurations may be configured so that standard partition policies for Active Vault may take advantage of additional Active Vault functionality by communicating with the external application that controls the respective standard partition via the configured interface configuration path.

Note: StorNext must have Web Service access enabled.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Add.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Configuration Name	Name that identifies the external application interface configuration for easy identification and selection when configuring an Active Vault policy.	Enter text.
   Application Interface	Allows you to select the application interface methodology to connect to the external application. Current supported methodologies include: StorNext WebServices	Select a value from the drop-down list.
   Host Address	Enter the IP address or DNS host name (if DNS is configured) of the primary external application server (StorNext Meta Data Controller (MDC)). Note: To use a host name, DNS must be configured (see DNS Settings).	Enter the IP address.
   Secondary Host Address	Optional: Enter the IP address or DNS host name (if DNS is configured) of the secondary external application server (StorNext Meta Data Controller (MDC)). Note: To use a host name, DNS must be configured (see DNS Settings).	Enter the optional IP address or leave blank if a secondary host is not configured.
   User Name	Enter the required user name used to access the application interface methodology. The user name must match what is configured in StorNext for remote Web Services access.	Enter text.
   Password	Enter the password associated with the defined user name needed to access the external application. The password must match what is configured in StorNext for remote Web Services access.	Enter text.
   Confirm Password	Re-enter the password to confirm.	Enter text.
   Protocol	Allows external application access via the selected interface methodology. Current protocol support includes: HTTP - unsecure data transfer protocol HTTPS - secure data transfer protocol	Select a value from the drop-down list.

   Item	Description	Action
   Configuration Name	Name that identifies the external application interface configuration for easy identification and selection when configuring an Active Vault policy.	Select the configuration name from the drop-down menu. Cannot be modified.
   Application Interface	Allows you to select the application you want to connect to. Values include: StorNext WebServices	No action. Display only.
   Host Address	Enter the IP address or DNS host name (if DNS is configured) of the primary external application server (StorNext Meta Data Controller (MDC)). Note: To use a host name, DNS must be configured (see DNS Settings).	Enter the new IP address.
   Secondary Host Address	Optional: Enter the IP address or DNS host name (if DNS is configured) of the secondary external application server (StorNext Meta Data Controller (MDC)). Note: The IP address must be the Admin address IP or the VIP, not the NAS cluster IP or and other configured IPs. Note: To use a host name, DNS must be configured (see DNS Settings).	Enter the new optional IP address or leave blank if a secondary host is not configured.
   User Name	Enter the required user name used to access the application interface methodology.	Enter new user name.
   Password	Enter the password associated with the defined user name needed to access the external application.	Enter new password.

The Scalar i3 provides functionality to coordinate Active Vault operations with an external application, currently only supported by Quantum’s StorNext Scale-Out Storage product. A configured application interface configuration may be deleted if such interface configuration is no longer needed and currently not configured for use by a standard partition Active Vault policy configuration.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Delete.

   Item	Description	Action
   Configuration Name	Name that identifies the external application interface configuration for easy identification and selection when configuring an Active Vault policy.	Select a value from the drop-down menu.
   Application Interface	Displays the application Interface methodology associated with the selected Configuration Name.	No action. Display only.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. Click Close to exit the window.

You can import cleaning tapes if the library has cleaning slots/magazines configured and cleaning slots are available to import additional cleaning tapes.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Cleaning Import.

   

3. In the Tape Cartridge Selection area, all available cleaning media are listed, with their barcode, location, and status.
4. Select the check box next to the cleaning tape(s) you want to import.
5. Click Apply. The Status column displays if the import was successful, and where the cleaning tape is now located.

6. Click Close to exit the window.

You can export cleaning tapes if the library has cleaning slots/magazines configured and cleaning media is present that can be selected for an export operation from the library.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Cleaning Export.

   

3. In the Tape Cartridge Selection area, all available cleaning media are listed. The barcode, location, state, use count and status are listed.
4. Select the check box next to the cleaning tape(s) you want to export.
5. Click Apply. The Status column displays if the export was successful, and where the cleaning tape is now located in the I/E area.

6. Click Close to exit the window.

Inventory scans all storage slots, drives, and I/E slots for media. A complete library inventory scans all sections (modules) of the library for media. A partial inventory scans one or more specific sections (modules) of the library for media.

1. From the Navigation panel, select Library.

2. In the Operations panel, click Inventory.

   

   Item	Description	Action
   Complete Library	Allows you to perform an inventory of all modules in the library.	Select this radio button and then click Apply.
   Partial Library	Allows you to perform an inventory of a specific module or series of modules in your library.	Select this radio button and select a start and end module. Click Apply to begin the partial inventory.

3. Click Close to exit the window.
