StorNext Connect Backups
You can configure StorNext Connect to perform a backup using a Cron job (see Change the Frequency of the StorNext Connect Backup). This runs on the StorNext Connect server (Node 2) and backs up StorNext Connect configuration information along with volume (file system) and storage archive performance data (in a Graphite Whisper database).
During backup of this Whisper database, the carbon-cache processes that capture performance data on the StorNext Connect server will be stopped. StorNext data gathering from clients is halted during this time, and performance information during that time will be lost.
Note: The backed up StorNext Connect configuration data is stored for diagnostic purposes, but is not required to functionally restore StorNext Connect in the context of disaster recovery.
You can change the frequency of a StorNext Connect backup (for example, weekly instead of daily) by editing the crontab connect_backup entry for the root user. See the crontab(1) man page for details.
By default, a backup is scheduled weekly (on Sundays at midnight) if your Xcellis system is running StorNext Connect on Docker.
By default, a backup is scheduled daily (at midnight).
The StorNext Connect backup procedure saves a backup of StorNext Connect information onto the shared HA volume (file system) of the metadata storage. Only a single current backup file is kept. Each time the backup is executed, the previous version of the backup file is overwritten.
Note: Quantum strongly recommends that a tape copy or an offline copy of the backup file is saved on an additional system or in a safe location, in case of an appliance system failure.
The restore option (-r target) is required for disaster recovery (that is, when the StorNext Connect system [Node 2] requires a full recovery). The backup archive is located on the shared HA volume (file system) in the /usr/adic/HAM/shared/connect/archive/ directory.
Note: When you use the restore option (-r target), the only target supported is graphite.
