Upgrade to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x

Feature Upgrade Packages

Prior to the Appliance Controller 1.4.1 release, all upgrade packages are specific to StorNext NAS and are referred to accordingly within this documentation center. Beginning with the Appliance Controller 1.4.1 release, upgrade packages encompass all Appliance Controller features and are referred to as Appliance Controller upgrades within this documentation center.

You can upgrade individual systems directly from StorNext NAS 1.2.5 to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x. However, to upgrade NAS clusters to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x, we recommend upgrading to StorNext NAS 1.3.0 first. StorNext NAS 1.3.0 provides the automatic NAS cluster upgrade feature, allowing you to upgrade an entire NAS cluster with one command.

How Do I Upgrade to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x?

The following steps walk you through the upgrade process.

  1. Determine Your Current Version

To determine your current version, see "Which Version Am I Running?" in Additional Considerations and Recommendations.

    • StorNext NAS 1.2.5 or higher

If you are currently running StorNext NAS 1.2.5, you can upgrade single nodes directly to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x.

To upgrade an entire NAS cluster with a single command, you must first upgrade to StorNext NAS 1.3.0. See Upgrade to NAS 1.3.0.

Proceed to 2. Select Your Upgrade Type: Local or Remote.

    • StorNext NAS 1.3.0

If you are currently running StorNext NAS 1.3.0, you can upgrade an entire NAS cluster directly to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.x with a single command. Proceed to 2. Select Your Upgrade Type: Local or Remote.

    • StorNext NAS1.4.0.x

Certain security fixes were included in the StorNext NAS 1.4.0.3 release, but not the Appliance Controller 1.4.1 release. Users who upgraded directly from StorNext NAS 1.4.0.2 or earlier to Appliance Controller 1.4.1 will not have these critical fixes. Therefore, for such users, we strongly recommend upgrading to Appliance Controller 1.4.1.1 or later to access these critical security fixes. Proceed to 2. Select Your Upgrade Type: Local or Remote.

    • Local Upgrade

To perform local upgrades, you need to download the upgrade package, extract the RPM files, and transfer the files to the /var/upgrade directory on the host server. Proceed to 3. Upgrade Your Environment: Single Nodes or NAS Clusters.

    • Remote Upgrade

To perform remote upgrades, the host server needs to be able to communicate with Quantum's remote upgrade repository over the Internet. Proceed to 3. Upgrade Your Environment: Single Nodes or NAS Clusters.
